The thought occurred to me that the gardens might appeal to some of our parishioners for a day trip. Does a nice bus ride to the gardens, lunch somewhere and a timely return home have any appeal for you guys and gals? Maryland is replete with countless lovely destinations for those who might enjoy a day’s outing and bus ride, shopping, a chance to blow the family fortune on beads and trinkets. I thought of the B&O Railroad Museum, Baltimore Museum of Art, Fort McHenry, Antietam Battlefield or Gettysburg, The Baltimore Basilica; you name the destination. If you and your friends have any interest in perusing such an adventure, please call our office at 410-255-3677 any business day and speak to Judy, Stacey or Donna. Each of our courteous and informed staff members boasts an earned MB degree from Loyola University in Touring Management and Coordination and can answer your every query. AND HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED. . . It’s often hard to read the page numbers for hymns? It’s hard to understand lyrics when sung? Occasionally miss a word or two . . . or three? We are studying the many beneficial possibilities we might enjoy by installing an effective and efficient video projection system. Please keep us prayerfully in mind as we investigate this venture. OUR LAUER BLDG.FIRST KIDDIE-KARE SUNDAY was a great success this Sunday. Our sincere thanks to Suzanne Keys whose painstaking planning enables us to begin this terrific ministry for our young parents. We will arrange for more helpful signage to welcome those who are new to this outreach. Thanks a lot for all your patience with us. We hope to make it better and better. As Deacon Rich put it, the “Status quo” can always be improved upon! You can bring the little ones to the Lauer Building for drop-off then set your mind for savoring an undistracted celebration of the Eucharist. The World News from and about Egypt becomes more and more discouraging. I am fortunate in having a classmate who is a priest in the Greek Orthodox church which enjoys a broad presence in the Near East. Fr. Charles informs me that the entire Christian family is suffering greatly in that part of the world and is in dire need of our payers. While the Islamist Brotherhood, the Army and the general citizenry are at odds, it is quite easy for the Christians to fall through the cracks and become just the fifth wheel and the target of generalized hate and vengeance. WE CAN HELP BECAUSE THE CHURCH IS ON THE SCENE! Catholic Relief Services are headquartered in Baltimore MD; easily accessed through WWW.CRS.Org or directly by mail to: Catholic Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore MD 21203. This is not just one ore appeal as the Faith is suffering big time in Syria, Israel, and many other countries of the Near & Middle East. WELCOME BACK TO BODKIN Welcome back to the faculty, staff and our neighbors at Bodkin Elementary, Chesapeake Bay Middle School and Chesapeake High School. Permission forms are due by Sunday, August 25th. Just a brief update on some of our activities this summerWe had our Work Camp trips at the end of June. One team of 6 students, 1 young adult and 3 adults headed into Baltimore City, and one team of 7 students, 1 young adult, and 3 adults went to Terra Alta, West Virginia. While they were there, they worked on “Habitat for Humanity” type work for the week. Everyone on both teams had an amazing experience, not only serving others, but also growing closer to one another and strengthening their faith. Thank you to everyone who was able to financially sponsor one of our students, and thanks to all of you for your prayers of support. We sent two students to the Archdiocese’s High School Leadership Institute (High-Li) in July at the Msgr. O’Dwyer Retreat House, where they received terrific leadership training for the week. We even sent a third student as a peer leader who helped to train the other students. We also sent one student to The Francis Project in July at St. William of York parish in Baltimore. They learned about Catholic Social Justice and actually had the opportunity to travel around Baltimore City for the week for hands on experiences too. Wednesday Night Group Our Sunday evening youth group meetings are on hiatus for the summer; are you missing them? Do you wish we met this time of year. Well, we do! Our Wednesday Night Group is a voluntary faith formation group for high school students. If you are in 9th-12th grade (that includes 8th graders who will be 9th graders this Fall), and you’re interested continuing your faith formation over the summer, come join us please! (Note: Our Sunday evening meetings are wonderful with great content; the WNG is more relaxed, and yet deeper discussions.) We meet, you guessed it, Wednesday evenings, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. The topic is different every evening, but always has to do with faith (prayer, current events, morality, debates, etc.), and always has to do with you! We would love to have you join us! (We even have our own weekend retreat on July 5-7 at the Bellarmine Retreat Center in Waynesboro, PA.) If you have any questions about Youth Ministry, please contact Tim Janiszewski (410-255-3677 or tjaniszewski@olchesapeake.org).
