Mr. Reyes-AP Human Geography Summer Assignment The AP Human Geography course is equivalent to an introductory college-level course in human geography. The course introduces students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine socioeconomic organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their research and applications. In order for students to be prepared for the AP exam in May, it is necessary to have basic vocabulary knowledge prior to the start of the school year. Define the following vocabulary words, often referred to as geographic concepts, on a sheet of paper. Your work should be hand-written. Use the following link for definitions; select Chapter 1, then click on the “Glossary” tab: http://bcs.wiley.com/hebcs/Books?action=mininav&bcsId=7014&itemId=1118018699&assetId=290303&resourceId=28718&newwindow=true accessibility cartography connectivity cultural diffusion cultural landscape culture fieldwork globalization human geography landscape mental map perception of place sense of place spatial time-distance decay On a separate sheet of paper, provide 3-4 sentence answers for the following questions: 1. 2. 3. 4. How is culture important to you? Why are some things found in certain places but not in others? How do the characteristics of a particular place shape what happens there? To what extent do things in one place influence those in other places? Your work is due on the first day of school, so be prepared to arrive on Monday, August 24 with your work. You will not find out until that morning if you have me on A days or B days, so don’t begin the year with two “0s” on Day 1! Thanks, and I look forward to meeting you in August! Have a great summer!
