1
Commitment to Community –
Jennifer Oseth & Heidi Plummer
When Jennifer Oseth saw hundreds of
homes burning in the Waldo Canyon Fire,
she launched a plan to help meet the needs
of the women affected in a well-organized,
dignified manner. Jennifer collected nearly
2,000 new garments from CAbi Corporate
and CAbi Consultants. Then she and
colleague Heidi Plummer organized a
women’s boutique at a Colorado Springs
church. Nearly 100 women attended the
event to shop for new, quality clothing.
Corporate Leadership –
Frontier Airlines
Frontier Airlines contributes to the community’s
preparedness and resilience on multiple
levels, from training its own employees to
safeguarding its customers to donating to
support local non-profits. During the 2012
Wildfires, Frontier Airlines raised more than
$54,000 to support Red Cross disaster relief.
The company encouraged its employees to
get into the spirit of volunteerism by participating in the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes
program in 2012. Frontier Airlines also has
made an ongoing commitment to saving lives
by installing AEDs and training their personnel
in lifesaving skills.

Healthcare Hero –
University of Colorado Hospital
ER Team
After a gunman opened fire in an Aurora
movie theater on July 20, 2012, the University
of Colorado Hospital (UCH) received 23
patients, more gunshot-wound victims than
any other Colorado hospital had ever received
from a single incident. Through the incredible
efforts of nurses, doctors and staff members,
every patient who arrived with a heartbeat,
left with a heartbeat.
Healthcare Hero –
Dr. Comilla Sasson
Dr. Sasson and her research team have
worked tirelessly to address health disparities.
She has led the charge to place lifesaving
AEDs and teach CPR skills in underserved
communities, which translates into countless
lives saved. Dr. Sasson has been instrumental
in bringing key players and stakeholders
together to help support community-wide
efforts to combat sudden cardiac arrest, a
leading cause of death in our country.

Animal Lifesaver – Maizie Livingston
Kate relies on her dog Maizie to keep her
safe when her type 1 diabetes could turn
life-threatening. Maizie has saved Kate’s life
on more than one occasion; Maizie notices
when Kate’s blood sugar is low. During these
episodes, Maizie licks Kate’s face until she
wakes up and fetches her orange juice or her
diabetes equipment.
Youth Lifesaver –
Katie & Matthew Connally
Matthew Connally and his father, Jody, were
working on his truck when suddenly Jody
collapsed, unconscious. Matthew alerted his
mother to call 911 while his younger sister,
Katie, ran outside to help him. Katie, then
14, had learned CPR through a Red Cross
babysitting course. Matthew began chest
compressions while Katie performed rescue
breaths. They continued until emergency
responders arrived to take Jody to the
hospital. Katie and Matthew’s efforts kept
vital blood and oxygen flowing to Jody’s brain
until he was transported to the hospital,
saving his life.

2013 Breakfast of Champions
Professional Lifesaver –
Capt. Siegfried Klein, Amy Klein,
Shelly Sones & Heidi Ammons
Aurora Fire Department Capt./Paramedic
Siegfried Klein was at a children’s birthday
party along with his wife, nurse Amy Klein,
and friends nurse Shelly Sones and Heidi
Ammons, when Heidi noticed a child at the
bottom of the pool. Heidi pulled the 4-year-old
from the pool, the adults assessed her condition, and Shelly immediately started CPR
while Amy instructed a neighbor to call 911.
Capt. Siegfried helped clear the girl’s airway
when she began to breathe. They successfully
revived the unconscious girl, saving her life.
Adult Lifesaver – Omar Salgado
Omar Salgado was on duty as a Denver
Health security guard alongside Brandon
Skalak when they witnessed a car run a red
light, side-swiping another car and sending
it plunging into Cherry Creek. Omar and
Brandon ran across the street, leapt down a
14-foot embankment and jumped into the icy
river to cut 68-year-old Gary Lozow out of his
seat belt and pull him to safety.

5
Military Lifesaver –
Senior Airman Keith Anderson
On Dec. 19, 2011, Senior Airman Keith J.
Anderson witnessed a passenger vehicle
and a prison correctional van roll over on
I-70. Senior Airman Anderson helped remove
the victims from the vehicles and conducted
triage to assist the most critically injured
passengers, helping to save the lives of
9 out of the 11 people in the van.
Spirit of the Red Cross –
Jerry & Patti Ellmann
When the High Park Fire forced the evacuation of their neighborhood and threatened
their home, Red Cross volunteers Jerry and
Patti Ellmann decided to devote their time
to volunteering for the Red Cross instead of
focusing on the danger at their doorstep.
They drove an emergency response vehicle
to deliver Red Cross aid to other residents
affected by the fire.

Caring is contagious.
Pass it on.
There’s no telling where an act of kindness will
lead. Like ripples in a pond, it spreads out in all
directions. And has positive effects that go well
beyond what can ever be seen.

Perspectives:
Creating our energy
future together
The debate around our energy future has never been as polarized
as it is today. For Suncor, sustainable development guides our
decision-making. We believe resources should be produced and used
in ways that generate economic growth, create social benefits and
minimize the impact on the environment. Our approach is to engage
with a variety of stakeholders to help us see different perspectives.
Together we can build the energy future we all desire.
Find out more about how Suncor is
collaborating to responsibly develop
North America’s energy supply.
