(Buck) Beaman, 65, of Epworth, died Sunday morning, June 2, 2013, at Stonehill Care Center, surrounded by his family. Friends and relatives of Myrlen may call from 2-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Reiff Funeral Home, in Epworth, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services for Myrlen will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Reiff Funeral Home, in Epworth, with the Rev. John Haugen presiding. Lector will be Justin Klostermann. Soloist will be Kari Feldmann. Military honors will be afforded by the Dubuque County Centralia Amvets Post #13. Burial will be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers for Myrlen will be Steven Zalaznik, Loras Ries, Joe McQuillen, Bill Stecker, Joe McAuliffe, Dale Valentine, Ron Kramer and Dale Merkes. Myrlen was born in Manchester on Oct. 4, 1947, son of Myrlen Beaman, Sr. and Lavina Brandenburg. He graduated from Western Dubuque High School in 1966. He served in the Navy 1967-71. Myrlen was employed at Dubuque Packing Co. and FDL. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and partying with family and friends. Myrlen married Janice Klostermann on Nov. 13, 1971, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Epworth. Myrlen was a member of the Dubuque County Amvets-Post #13 and a member of melgomated meat cutters union. Surviving are his wife, Janice; children, Todd (Ola) Beaman, of San Antonio, Texas, Chris Beaman and Kari (Steve) Klostermann, of Epworth, and Kellie Beaman, of Wausau, Wis.; his mother, Lavina Beaman; seven grandchildren, Paige Beaman, Todd, Jr. (T.J.), Jillian Beaman and Lexi, Justin, Ethan and Ryan Klostermann; siblings, Benjiman Beaman (Linda Hawk), of Waupeton, Patricia Maize, of Dubuque, and David Beaman, of Fordland, Mo.; in-laws (Darlene) Klostermann, of Earlville, Mary (Vince) Manders, of Dubuque, Lois (Dave) Gavin, of Bernard, Leo (Carol) Klostermann, of Dyersville, Jean (Lavern “Flute“) Weber, of Cascade, Lawrence “Smiley“ (Linda) Klostermann, of Des Moines, and Gary (Bev) Klostermann, of East Dubuque; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. James was born Feb. 19, 1928, in rural Colesburg, the son of Isadore and Alma (Ferring) Diers. He married Verna VonHandorf on Oct. 4, 1950, in Colesburg. Together they farmed near Colesburg on the home farm. Jim also worked at John Deere Dubuque Works and completely retired in 1985. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Verna; three children: James (Janet) Diers, Jr., Robert (Debra) Diers and Kay (Jim) Diers-Jones, all of Colesburg; seven grandchildren: Jessica (Mitch) Kirby, Jason Diers, Jared (Amanda) Diers, Heidi Diers, Amanda Diers, Jake Jones and Ike Jones; six greatgrandchildren; one sister, Jeanette (Conrad) Tegeler, of Manchester; and brothers- and sisters-in-law: Jerry Ellerbach, of Holy Cross, Eunice Diers, Donald (Jean) VonHandorf, Lester (Nancy) VonHandorf, Ken (LouAnn) Brown, all of Colesburg, and Roger (Marilyn) Schrunk, of California. She and Cele farmed in the Balltown area for 59 years. Eleanor was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and the Rosary Society. She led the Balltown quilters. Eleanor was an excellent cake decorator and was known for her wedding cakes. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. One of the main components to making a successful song is to have a strong rhythm section, with the drums providing the beat for the song. At the James Kennedy Public Library we will be hosting a drum circle program on June 7 at 11 a.m. This program will be led by Dr. James Sherry and Bill Enke, two professional musicians from the University of Dubuque. A drum circle is any group of people playing hand-drums and percussion in a circle. They can range in size from a handful of players to circles with thousands of participants. This program will consist of basic rhythm patterns and games to teach participants how to play drums and other percussion instruments. Participants can use these patterns and games to get started learning how to play a percussion instrument or to expand their current knowledge. This program is geared towards beginners but it is open to all ages and skill levels. The musicians will bring hand drums along with various percussion instruments such as tambourines and cowbells. If you want to use one of the instruments brought by the instructors you will need to request it by June 6. Participants are also welcome to bring their own percussion instruments. A minimum of 6 participants must be registered by 5 pm on Thursday, June 6 for this program to be held. Walk-ins welcome as space allows.
