LIVING IN JORDAN
Shopping and
Entertainment
Mall culture has certainly taken firm hold in Jordan, partially driven by the
need for better retail facilities to serve an increasingly consumer-driven
population, amongst whom shopping is entertainment, and to further
consolidate Amman’s position as a summer destination for families
escaping the high temperatures in the Gulf.
Malls in Amman
King Abdullah II Street, Amman
City Mall
Home to the enormous Carrefour
hypermarket and leading mainstream
brands such as Massimo Dutti, Zara
and Footlocker, it remains the most
popular mall in the country.

Mecca Mall
The original mega-mall and still
expanding every year, this is a
more local affair, with specialist
shops more evident than branded
franchises.
Mecca Street, Amman
Al-Baraka Mall
A new, boutique-style mall in the
ever-congested Sweifieh area, which
is perhaps more noted for its cinema
and excellent sushi restaurant than
its shops.
Swefieh, Amman
Abdoun Mall
Although located in the perfect place
for a mall, it has been eclipsed by
bigger rivals on the outskirts of the
city – and won’t be helped by the
soon-to-be-opened Taj Mall down
the street.
