The New Mother
Mother
Son
What have you planned for tonight?
What do you care?
Why can’t I ask you questions about your plans?
How come you have never asked me
before?
Why do you have be so difficult?
Where are my keys?
Where are you going?
Where are YOU going?
Why are you trying to make this about me?
Why can’t you see that it IS about you?
Where are you going?
Why don’t you just go back to ignoring me?
You think I ignore you?
Where are my stupid keys?
How can you be so self-absorbed?
Do you have my keys?
Would you have treated your father this way?
Why are you bringing him into this?
Why can’t you just answer the question?
Do you even care that he’s gone?
How could you ask such a question?
Are my keys in that drawer?
Why can’t we discuss this?
How can you expect to be my mother after
all those years of not being in my life?
Where were all the “How was school, Jim?”
“Can I help you with your homework, Jim?”
“Jim, do you need anything to eat?”
Why can’t I start to be a better Mom today?
Can’t I at least try to make things up to you?
Do you know we haven’t even talked about
Dad since the funeral?
Can’t you see this is hard for me too?
Do we have any chips?
Why?
Can you get me a glass?
What are you doing?
Is it too late to talk?
Prom Dress
Daughter
Father
I’ll try this dress.
Do you see how expensive it is?
It looks perfect.
Don’t you think it’s a bit . . . revealing?
This one is it.
How can I allow you to where such a dress?
I’m trying it on.
What about this pink, ruffled one?
I’ll be right back
Can’t you at least consider something else?
This is THE dress
Do you really want to go to Prom in THAT
dress?
It’s screaming, “Take me home!”
Did you notice this classic scoop-neck and
floor-length model?
Paul will love it.
Who is Paul?
I can’t wait to show Deanna
How long have you known this Paul?
Let’s go, Dad
Can’t you reconsider? Did you see the
snazzy outfit on that manikin?
That’s a dress grandma wouldn’t even wear.
You don’t like it?
Dad, please? I only have one Prom, and you
have only one daughter.
Do they take American Express?
