“Have You Ever Questioned God’s Motives?” July 14, 2013 Romans 5:21 “So that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord!” In Romans 5:12f, we find that the Law was given to mankind for the purpose of bringing rapt attention to the far-reaching devastation and reality of Adam’s fall upon the entire human race… and specifically, to make unmistakable the true nature of every sinner’s hopeless estate! But in Romans 5:21, we find a theological Diamond in the rough that warrants all of one’s energy & thought to study and ponder our salvation’s glorious splendor in ‘grace’. The Bible’s revelation of the “Law” to us is tremendously devastating at the very least… The revelation of God’s MOTIVES for giving us grace will prove to be an unfailing source of unending Joy and Comfort for every true believer marching even now toward heaven! CONSIDER THESE FOUR MOTIVES OF GOD FOR GRACE: 1. To Do us Good! (Ephesians 1:2,3) “The desire of God to do us good is not unworthy of being mentioned, even by itself. For it means that God is good. Remember that: God is good! That is wonderful, is it not? It is something we should converse about and even shout about, because if God were not good, there would be no hope for any of us.” Dr. Jim Boice 2. To Enable us to do Good (Ephesians 2:8-10) 3. To illustrate His vast Wisdom to the principalities (Ephesians 3:1-10) 4. To Showcase His attribute of Graciousness in His church throughout all eternity! (Ephesians 2:7) “…And we will say to those angels: “You were right in giving all glory to Him. He is the wonderful one. He is the gracious one. There is none like unto Him.” And amid all the ceaseless activities of heaven, while we are associated with Him as the queen is with the king, we shall ever point to Him as the source of all grace, and be, in ourselves, the exhibit of the exceeding riches of His grace.” Dr. D.G.
