Leader: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the
shadow of the Almighty.
People: I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in Whom I trust.”
Leader: If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the Lord, who
is my refuge People: then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near
your tent.
Leader: For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you
in all your ways;
People: They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not
strike your foot against a stone.

TrebleMakers
A simple prayer: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football
game, help us to be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup
to eat” is inspiring a youth-led movement to help hungry and hurting
people around the world.
This prayer was first uttered in 1990. Twenty-two years later
ordinary young people have generated an extraordinary $70 + million
for soup kitchens, food banks and other charities in communities across
the country.
The offering on Souper Bowl of Caring today, February 5th, will
help support the Food Pantry and Operation Engage.

Highland has and continues to volunteer for Sue Byrd at Operation
InAsMuch serving breakfast to the needy.
The hours are 7:00am - 9:00am and the tasks given are easy as
well as fulfilling. At present, we have several dedicated groups that serve.
We are asking for help on the THIRD Wednesday Every-Other-Month.
Our next day to serve is Wednesday, March 21. (Then May 16,
July 18, September 19 and November 21.) We need 10 volunteers. You
may call the church or sign-up on the Pink Poster located outside of Mission
Central.
What a great feeling knowing we are Sharing HIS Love through
our actions as we serve those in need.
A few lines my friends...
to say welcome to Scottish Heritage Sunday, 2012. It will be a great
day as we celebrate our rich history as Highland Presbyterian, organized in
1911. The Cape Fear region of the Carolinas was settled by the Scots as early
as the late 18th Century. Coming from Scotland in search of a new land and
freedom to pursue life, liberty and happiness as well as religious freedom
many of them settled in what became Cross Creek and Campbellton landing,
later to be Fayetteville.
On April 13, 1911, a number of Haymount residents, weary of making
the horse-drawn buggy trip one-and-a-quarter miles down unpaved, and
sometimes swampy Hay Street to First Presbyterian Church, requested that
the Presbytery, meeting in Laurinburg, appoint a commission to inquire into
starting a new Presbyterian Church on Haymount Hill. The Commission met
on June 5, 1911, in the Graded School Building on Hay Street, and 39 residents
of the Haymount neighborhood signed a petition asking that the new church
be organized. The church was first called Haymount Presbyterian Church,
but the name changed in April of 1912 to Highland Presbyterian to honor the
Highland Scots. On Sunday, September 7, 1913, an enthusiastic congregation
processed from Graded School (Buieville Academy) to the new church on
Hay Street for it’s first church service in that building.
At the conclusion of our Scottish Heritage worship we will convene
on the front lawn of the church where we will bury the Centennial Time
Capsule marking 100 years of faithful service to Christ and His church. This
milestone event will properly note this historic event for future generations.
It is a joy serving with you in ministry as we enter this second century
of service together.

INFORMATION, PLEASE
READ! Super Bowl Party –
February 5! The teams have been set and it is time to gear up for the big
game. The MIDDLE SCHOOL youth are invited to the church for a night of
fun and fellowship as we watch the first half of the Super Bowl together. The
HIGH SCHOOL youth are invited to the home of Jean Merlino (532 Village
Lake Ct Apt 103 Spring Lake, NC 28390). If you need information from Jean,
you can reach her at 910-580-1926. Wear a shirt for your favorite team, be
ready to cheer at the top of your lungs, and most importantly have fun! We
will meet together at 6:00pm and will leave at the end of half time (or when
parents want to pick their youth up). See you there.
-Middle School Presbytery Retreat! The theme for this retreat is “God Hears
a Who!?” On March 10 – 11 we will be joining with about 100 youth from all
over the Presbytery to play, worship, have small group time, and have a great
time together. The deadline to signup is February 14 and the cost is $45. Please
let Eric know if you want to attend.
-Thursday Talk Time! Do you like to have fun? Have you ever wondered
about the meaning of life? Do you just need a break from the reality that is your
everyday life? Come to The Coffee Scene between 3:30 – 5:30pm on Thursdays
and have a cup of coffee or gelato with me and let your cares drift away as we
sit and play, talk, pray, and fellowship with each other.
Operating Budget - 2012
Your Finance Committee and Session are in the midst of prayerful
deliberation in finalizing a budget for the 2012 year. We really are in dire need of
all the support each of you can give. Certainly, each and every pledge is important
to us. If you have not done so, please complete your pledge card and return it to
the church to the attention of Sammy Holden, our Business Administrator.
Here are our current circumstances:
* 2011 ended with no surplus funds
* We collected 90% of our pledges for 2011 because of less
stock appreciation, deaths, people moving away, the
economy, etc.
* We are currently paying $15,450 a month on our mortgage
What we’ve already planned:
* No staff pay increases occurred last year, nor do we anticipate
any increase in 2012
* Non Ministerial staff who have insurance will be asked to pay
20% of their insurance premiums
Where we go next:
* We hope to avoid major cuts in
1. benevolence
2. the television ministry
3. staffing
4. program
* We hope that all those who have not pledged, will feel moved
to pledge
Be prayerful in your pledge consideration and for your church.
