It includes more than 65 databases and is tailored to the needs of academic research in its search capabilities and output. MEMIS includes data on more than 20 countries in emerging markets. FSS compiles two main sources of data: FISIS and DART. Data on financial institutions is compiled on the Financial Statistics Information System (FISIS). The second source, DART (Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System), is a comprehensive disclosure system that ensures rapid corporate disclosure and transparent management by helping companies submit their documents in the form of SGML through the Internet to institutions concerned such as the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) and disclosing the contents to the public in real time. 1. It also reaches judgments regarding cases for which objections have been filed and deliberates on and reaches decisions on other related matters. It has six bureaus; Competition Policy Bureau, Antitrust Bureau, Competition Bureau, Consumer Protection Bureau, Subcontract Bureau and Investigation Bureau. The Antitrust Bureau, especially, is in charge of enforcing legal arrangements aimed at curbing the concentration of economic power in business groups (chaebols). It also handles issues such as M&A reviews, improvement of monopolistic/oligopolistic market structures, actions to enhance competition in the markets of Public Enterprises and investigations into unfair trade practices. Its major roles include establishing and enforcing policies designed to regulate monopolies and oligopolies; designating market-dominating enterprises and monitoring market power abuse. KIS started to provide online corporate and financial information on the KIS-LINE in 1988 and has been fully promoting the information business since. It publishes information on approximately 398,000 firms including firms listed on the KSE (Korea Stock Exchange) and KOSDAQ. Information is available since 1980 but before 1997 the only data available is from KSE. KIS sells two major databases; KIS-FAS/SMAT and KIS-LINE. 1.
