KOREA FINANCIAL SUPERVISORY SERVICE
The Korea Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) major functions include the supervision, examination, investigation of and enforcement
on financial institutions as well as other matters delegated by the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) and the Securities and
Futures Commission (SFC).
FSS compiles two main sources of data: FISIS and DART. Data on financial institutions is compiled on the Financial Statistics
Information System (FISIS). The second source, DART (Data Analysis, Retrieval and Transfer System), is a comprehensive disclosure
system that ensures rapid corporate disclosure and transparent management by helping companies submit their documents in the
form of SGML through the Internet to institutions concerned such as the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) and disclosing the
contents to the public in real time.

Other companies include registered and externally audited companies. Firms who want to access capital markets such as KSE and
KOSDAQ in the future can register to FSS earlier in order to introduce themselves to the market members. The government regulates that
every company whose total asset is greater than 4 billion KRW should be audited by external auditors. About 400 companies are currently
classified as other companies in DART.

KOREA FAIR TRADE COMMISSION
The Fair Trade Commission deliberates on matters relating to the enactment, revision, modification, or interpretation of the acts,
decrees, and notifications relating to fair trade. It also reaches judgments regarding cases for which objections have been filed and
deliberates on and reaches decisions on other related matters. It has six bureaus; Competition Policy Bureau, Antitrust Bureau,
Competition Bureau, Consumer Protection Bureau, Subcontract Bureau and Investigation Bureau.
The Antitrust Bureau, especially, is in charge of enforcing legal arrangements aimed at curbing the concentration of economic power
in business groups (chaebols). It also handles issues such as M&A reviews, improvement of monopolistic/oligopolistic market
structures, actions to enhance competition in the markets of Public Enterprises and investigations into unfair trade practices. Its
major roles include establishing and enforcing policies designed to regulate monopolies and oligopolies; designating market-dominating
enterprises and monitoring market power abuse.
