BRIDGESTONE
DONATES
$ 10,000
Founded in 1952, the Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund supports a
variety of important non-profits. The organization focuses on supporting education, environment and conservation as well as
children’s programs. Over 20 million dollars has been donated to
various corporations in the past five years.
Rosedale Tech has graciously been the recipient of funds using the
donations to support technician training programs at the school.
This year, the $10,000 donation will go toward the newest automotive project, the Super Nova.
Rosedale Tech students, led by Instructors, are engineering a 1969
Chevy Nova that will have the functionality and power of a Pontiac
GTO. The vehicle will be used as a race vehicle, and also be driven to
car shows, high schools and various marketing events.
Director of Student Services, Amy Pascarella, stated: “Bridgestone
Firestone has always been a valued employer. With their generous
donations, we have been able to improve the learning environment
for our students.”

Having a FIELD DAY
During in-service days, instructors typically complete specific professional development modules which relate directly to their field and
classroom management practices. In searching for a way to get some
additional hands-on professional development, Director of Education, Ed Petrunak, thought Rosedale Tech instructors should spend a
day in the field. Ed stated: “Our employers visit Rosedale Tech frequently for advisory board meetings, career fairs, mock interviews
and presentations, why not send our instructors to their place of
business?”

The field day allowed instructors to meet with supervisors, managers
and technicians at some of RTI’s most valued employers. The instructors visited businesses where Rosedale graduates were currently
employed. Instructors and employers also shared and discussed the
principles needed for success in today’s workforce.

CCBC’s Gas & Oil Tech Program
The Community College of Beaver County was recently awarded a
grant to fund education in the field of Gas and Oil Technology.
One component of the new program that was created included
truck driving with an emphasis on the gas and oil industry. Without
the resources or facilities on hand, Hugh Gallagher- Career Coach
at CCBC, reached out to Rosedale Tech for assistance.
After meeting with Mr. Gallagher, RTI created a custom 240 hour
CDL Class A certificate program to meet their needs. The first
section of the class was made up of theory in the classroom and lab,
the second was the range and driving portion. Mark Sipin was the
lead instructor for the customized class. Beyond the technical
resources that Rosedale was able to offer, the CCBC students were
also able to take advantage of other services available to full-time

N E W Training Tools A d d e d t o D i e s e l L a b
Rosedale Tech’s Diesel Technology program recently added
$60,000 worth of training equipment to its engines lab. New to
the shop are two engine stands and the real eye-catcher is a 2011
8.9 Liter Cummins complete engine.
The new engine will offer students complete diagnostic and emissions training as well as current sensor training that mirrors today’s industry standards. New technologies, such as EGR (exhaust
gas recirculation) and DPF (diesel particulate filter) which help to
make the engine run cleaner and more environmentally friendly,
are also features of the new training tool. “This will keep our guys
current on the new emission standards,” Diesel Technology
Instructor Rob Murphy said.
The exposed engine will also allow Mr. Murphy to instruct his
students more quickly on various diagnostic issues. “Sometimes
when under the hood, not every student can observe the proper
procedures. Now, we’re able to work through instructions
together,” he went on to say. The new engine will also allow
instructors to quickly create a wide variety of scenarios and
challenges faced in the field.
The Circuit
The make-up of today’s diesel engine is becoming increasingly computerized and electronic. Scan tools and sensors are used to more
efficiently determine engine performance issues. The software
behind the tools is also capable of downloading the newest
diagnostic updates directly from Cummins as they are implemented, affording the student the most up-to-date training practices.
Rosedale makes every effort to stay current with industry standards
so that its graduates continue to meet the growing need for skilled
tradespeople.

Winter OLYMPICS
In February, Rosedale Tech students and faculty held their version of the 2014 Winter
Olympics. Students were divided into teams of five based upon their program of study
and instructor (or team coach).
Students competed in five events: water flip cup (best time), chair race (best time), corn
hole (most bags) or basketball (most baskets), hula hoop (longest time) and paper airplane
toss (furthest distance). The teams competed in each event and when the scores were
tallied, the victors were awarded medals of honor.
Congratulations winners of the Rosedale Tech 2014 Winter Olympics!
