hours. The Physics Dept. tutorial center (location 2702 Mayer Hall
Addition) is also open Sunday-Thursday from 3-8 p.m. The link to

Acad. Dishonesty: Please read “UC Policy on Integrity of Scholarship” in the UCSD
General Catalog.
Course Format:
Physics 1 A-B-C is a lecture course covering mechanics, electricity and
magnetism, waves and modern physics. This sequence is not suitable
for students majoring in Physics, MAE, ECE or CSE. Other majors
should check with their departments for the appropriate sequence.
Physics 1C deals with modern physics. A laboratory meeting each week
will give hands-on experience of the physical concepts dealt with in the
course. Concurrent enrollment in the 1C lab is required. Lab
information can be found at:
http://physics.ucsd.edu/students/courses/spring2015/.
Note that the lab instructor is Dr. Alexander Groisman and it is a
separate class.
HW Assignments: Problem sets are assigned as selections from each text chapter. The
graded homework will be through WebAssign, which is an online
homework submission and grading tool. This class will include a free
trial usage of WebAssign. When you bought your textbook from the
campus bookstore, WebAssign access was bundled with it, but I will
ensure that those of you without a code will have free access for the
duration of the course. Every week, we will assign homework problems
with WebAssign which must be completed by the listed due date.
Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given beginning the 2nd full week of lectures (Apr. 10,
Apr. 24, May 15 and May 29). Your lowest quiz score will be dropped.
There will be no make-up quizzes. You must purchase your own
scantron form for quizzes (No. X101864-PAR). They are available at
the Bookstore and the general store co-op for $0.15 each. You will
need a No. 2 pencil to fill in the scantron.
Clickers:
You have the opportunity to participate in lecture by utilizing the inclass Interwrite PRS system (clickers). Before you use the clickers for the
first time, be sure to enter in your student ID under the setup menu.
Points for the clickers will mostly be assigned by participation. Every
question given in lecture is worth 2 points, you will be given 1 point for
merely answering with 1 point given for answering correctly. Clickers
will become part of lecture beginning the 2nd week of the quarter.
