Freshman Online Course Selection
Notice:
1. Selection period: from 13:30 September 1 to 12:00 September 3. Late selection will not be accepted.
Students may select courses online at computing center in school (Downtown Campus: 2219, Wai
Shuang Hsi Campus: B509)
2. The aggregate credits by each student are limited from 10 to 25.
3. Mandatory courses had been directly transferred by computer in advance so that students may add
elective courses only. From next semester, students shall proceed to advisor with course pre-selection
form for course selection counseling and advice then select courses in accordance with them.
4. There are 12 mandatory credits for general education courses that students may select 4 groups from 6
categories. Students shall complete courses in four groups first then select courses in the same
category.
5. Except for students from Department of English Language and Literature, freshman must take English
courses first year classified by his admission grades. However, those who passed the test equivalent to
intermediate level of GEPT or had English grades above 88th percentile in General Scholastic Ability
Test (Advanced Subjects Test) can re-select Japanese or German. Please hand in the certification with
application form to the Registration and Curriculum Division during course selection counseling for
manual online reelection.
6. The course selection result will be emailed and sequentially released by system on the afternoon of
September 3. In addition, students may download and print the course selection result on the
afternoon of September 6.
7. School will start on September 7.

academic exchange, foreign languages,
military instructions, practice of applied

2. The credit recognition of this field will be
identified by each department. Students may

Programs at Soochow University
Revised by temporary academic affairs meeting at 2nd semester in academic year 2009 (2010.03.10)
1. It was regulated according to the Article 49-4 of School, “Since academic year 2008, freshman
in undergraduate program shall pass English proficiency test equivalent to B1 level of Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, and Assessment (CEF)
or English test of Soochow University under the requirement of Article 49-1 for graduation.
Those who did not pass shall not graduate until completion of relevant English supplement
courses. It shall be applied if there is any standard or additional regulation higher than the above
standard set by each department”.
2. The content of English proficiency level for graduation for students in undergraduate program
in Soochow University is as below:

3. The regulations relevant to English proficiency level for graduation for students in
undergraduate programs at Soochow University are as below:
(1) It shall be applied if there is any standard higher than CEF-B1 or additional regulation set by
each department.
(2) Students in School of Foreign Languages and Cultures shall not take the foreign language
courses designed for freshman and sophomore the same as their major.
(3) Students who took English, Foreign Language I, or Foreign Language II course shall
participate the “Uniform English Test” of Soochow University arranged by school at the end
of 2nd semester of English or Foreign Language II course. Those who submitted the
certification equivalent to CEF-B1 outside the school and completed registration in the
system by department will be deleted from the exam candidate list.
Students who did not pass the above test shall participate uniform or single test by
themselves until passed the level for graduation or select to pass any test equivalent to

CEF-B1 with completion of Advanced English I and Advanced English II as additional
condition.
(4) Students who select to pass test equivalent to CEF-B1 as additional condition for graduation
shall submit original certification of passed test to their department for verification no later
than the extended study period. If the test equivalent to CEF-B1 has first and second round,
students shall pass both of them.
(5) Students who select to complete Advanced English I and Advanced English II as additional
condition for graduation can discontinue language course at next semester if they passed and
were verified the test equivalent to CEF-B1 or English Test of Soochow University under
the requirement of course selection during studying period of Advanced English I and
Advanced English II.
(6) The credits achieved from the Advanced English I and Advanced English II courses as
additional condition for graduation are not counted as credits for graduation. (Freshman of
undergraduate program in academic year 2008 and 2009 excluded.)
(7) Minor and double major students shall apply to the level for graduation from their original
department.

Note for registration and suspension: Each fee will be waived for those who complete suspension and
hand in diploma and other certificates on or before registration day.
1. According to Article 3 of the School regulations, enrolled freshmen and transfer students shall report
for registration in accordance with the notified date after admission. However, registration can be
redone within three days after approval of school with relevant proof of special event. Admission will
be cancelled for past due registration.
2. According to the Article 8-2 of School, two-thirds of the tuition and all the other fees will be returned
to freshman for suspension completed before school starts in accordance with calendar. According to
the Article 8-3 of School, two-thirds of each fee will be returned for those who apply before one-third
of the semester, one-third of each fee will be returned for those who apply between one-third and
two-thirds of the semester, and no fee will be returned for those who apply after two-thirds of the
semester. School will start on September 7.
3. Suspension treatment on or before registration day: Each fee will be waived. Please go to relevant unit
with Registration Form and Suspension Application Form for procedure and return them to the
Registration and Curriculum Division to receive student ID and suspension certification for procedure
completion. The suspension period is limited to 2 years. Please go to the Registration and Curriculum
Division for re-enrollment after suspension period expired. Please print Suspension Application Form
at http://www.scu.edu.tw/reg/form/form11.doc.
4. The standards at re-enrollment year shall be followed for the total list of mandatory/elective courses
for those who suspended at 1st semester of first year.
Freshman Orientation Activities
In order to make freshman get used to the university life, understand the school surroundings and
available resources, and adjust his own learning attitude and direction, a series of freshman orientation
activities including many practical courses will be held by each relevant unit in school before school
starts. Attendance will be taken throughout each activity and all freshmen are required to participate.
The relevant information is as below:
(1) Objective: Assist to adjust university environment, promote a meaningful connection with
faculties, administrative officers, and peers, as well as help to build learning method and think
career goal and direction.
(2) Applicable to: all freshmen in day-time department and part of transferred freshmen and freshmen
in Continuing Education Bachelor’s Program.
(3) Time: Aug.31 (Mon.) – Sep. 4 (Thurs.)
(4) Content: Set “Successful Learning” as orientation target in accordance with the point of view from
development theory of university students with reference of our school features and missions. The
content of orientation activities contains 6 categories as below:

Personal Information Maintenance of Soochow Students
1. Time for maintaining personal information online: 9:30 on Aug. 7 – 24:00 on Aug. 31.
2. Login instruction:
(1) Use Internet Explorer IE to enter the E-campus System website at
http://www.ecampus.scu.edu.tw.
(2) Open “Tool Kit” on the right side of the homepage of E-campus System to execute the option of
“check browser settings” (This step needs to be performed once only unless there’s update or
settings adjustment of browser.)
(3) After the execution, the Internet Explorer (IE) browser settings will emerge on the screen. Please
click “change my settings to meet E-campus System”.
(4) Close browser and reopen it to enter the homepage of “E-campus System”.
Please select “student”, enter student ID as the account number, and enter last 4 digits of ID as the
password for general students; last 4 digits of residence permit for overseas Chinese students,
international students, and students from China; 9999 for students without ID or permit.

medical staff to prevent from chest X-ray.
c. Please wear tops without buttons, metal zippers, sequins or beads, or metal bra or tops so as
not to influence the results of the chest X-ray.
d. Please notify medical staff in advance if you are not feeling well, are pregnant, experiencing
menstruation, diabetes, experiencing a chronic condition, or have special physiology at
Check-ups day for appropriate assistance.
(6) Please follow schedule by each department for Check-ups to run this procedure smoothly.
(7) Receive Check-ups report: Check-ups hospital will send a copy of Check-ups report to parent or
custodian and a copy to department that will notify class representative to transfer to individual in
late October.

scholarships, subsidy, deduction offers, student loans, or re-payment/refunds each semester.
Payments from the School to students are made through post office accounts. Therefore,
you must prepare a post office account and enter your account information correctly in
your personal information for reference.
The account information you provided must be:
1. Post office account. (post office accounts only, bank accounts will not be accepted)
2. Your personal account. (others’ account such as family or friends will not be accepted)
3. Fill in the correct 7 post office numbers and the 7 account numbers. (without 700)

1. Except students from Department of English Language and Literature, freshman must take English
courses of first year classified by his admission grades. However, those who passed the test
equivalent to intermediate level of GEPT or had English grades above 88th percentile in General
Scholastic Ability Test (Advanced Subjects Test) can re-select Japanese or German.
2. Those who selected non-English course for freshman shall continue to take that language course
