Hello Sewing Friends!
With the smell of cinnamon and pumpkins, and the sounds of leaves rustling in the yard, fall is in full swing and winter is not
far behind. Get your snow tires on, and get your machines tuned up for that favorite time of the year; sewing season!
Busy is an understatement for CS Sewing and we can’t thank you enough. Over the past many months we have gone
through remodeling, had many events, and been doing some fun training with our CS Sewing crew. Feedback about the
way the sales floor is coming together has been great. We thank you for all the compliments. There are still a few things
left to do and move around, but we are very happy with how everything is coming together.
Our classroom is filling up with exciting projects for winter 2015 and into the first of the year. We are now offering the Anita
Goodesign Embroidery Workshop which has been very well received! Thank you to Ann for all her work to make this so
successful! Judith will be teaching a NEW quarterly “technique” type class that focuses on how to properly use presser feet,
but it is not limited to just that topic. If the subject helps you get better results, there is no subject off limits in that class. Of
course Software Sampler is coming back, and so is our Girl’s Night Out fast, fun, and easy classes. And for you Hoop Sisters
fans, we have options for you, both large and small projects this quarter! I think that is going to be a big hit! Last but
certainly not least, we have had numerous requests for garment construction classes so we are offering Beginning Sewing 1
& 2 again for those of you interested. The skills you develop when you take a sewing class are priceless. Not only is it good
for your brain, it gets you sewing more which improves your skills, but we also see a community of sewers uniting and
developing friendships which really touches our hearts.
If you have not been in recently, then you will be amazed at the long arm presence on our sales floor. We have more than 4
long arms on our sales floor, many in full frame mode. Even if you don’t see yourself in the market for such a machine, we
invite you to come in and take one for a ride. The experience may cause us to have to add wine and cheese to the
demonstration.

Free Motion Frenzy
Does free motion quilting make you nervous? In this trunk show and lecture/demo class you will
see and learn many different techniques of free motion quilting. From fillers to feathers, and sew
much more, quilting expert Denise Schober will show you that these techniques are much easier
than you may think to create, even on your home sewing machine. You will learn how to set
yourself up for a successful free motion experience. In addition to free motion quilting, you will

Denise Schober
Denise Schober travels around the United States teaching quilting, sewing and designing. When not working her fulltime job she
is constantly making art with her sewing machine, weaving looms and quilting frames. Denise has been sewing for more than 40
years. It is one of her passions, and she is always excited to share her knowledge with others. Denise studied drawing and
painting at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Among Denise’s accomplishments are the many entries in art galleries,
quilt show and art shows. She has appeared as a guest on America Sews with Sue Hausmann, Martha’s Sewing Room with
Martha Pullen, and worked with Martha Stewart designing embroidery designs for towels on her television show. Denise lives
just north of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with her husband Les. Outside of the quilting and sewing Denise’s interest include: watching
movies with Les, auto racing, learning new techniques, and skiing both water and snow.

About Handi Quilter - With a life-long interest in sewing, Laurel Barrus, founder of Handi Quilter, had the idea for the
“Handi Quilter” portable frame when she was looking for a way to take a portable machine quilting frame to her family cabin.
She could not find anything to suit her needs in the marketplace, so she worked with her father to create something that could
be used with her own home sewing machine. It had to be light and small enough to carry in her car yet adjustable so it could
accommodate small or large quilts. When her friends saw the portable, adjustable frame she had created, they wanted one
too.
By May of 2001, the business was incorporated and Laurel and her husband Roger went to quilt shows around the country to
sell and advertise the “Handi Quilter”, as well as set up wholesale business relationships with quilt shop owners to sell the
frame.
The business continued to grow in 2002, an application was made for a patent, six competitors entered the marketplace.
Laurel reviewed the market and saw the demand for a larger sewing machine. The only existing option was a commercial, long
-arm machine which were typically too large, heavy and expensive for home use. Laurel recognized the potential of the home
machine quilting market, if a quality product could be offered at an affordable price and fit in the home environment.
She explored the possibilities of an existing sewing machine company making a mid arm machine for her company. When
none were interested, she decided to do it herself. In late 2002 and early 2003, she invested in the design and production of
an entirely new line of products – the “HQ Sixteen” quilting machine and the adjustable frames to support it.
Today, Handi Quilter continues to lead out in the quilting industry, following our founder’s vision – “Designed by a Quilter, for
Quilters”®.
In 2010, Handi Quilter became the only longarm quilting machine company to achieve worldwide safety and electrical
certificates for our quilting machines and systems, allowing HQ to expand to more than 700 worldwide independent retail
