Chavenage Hall 9th December 1815 Dear Simon, Thank you dear cousin for Lord Byron’s Melodies, which have brought warmth in these days of bleak winter rain. The inscription from the author was most touching, and your kindness in sending it, something I shall not forget. I hope you are seated reading this, because I have news. It is confirmed that I am to come to London! I shall make the journey with mother, in the carriage of the Baroness Palterpoint, and that we shall drive down this coming week, breaking the journey at the home of my maternal aunt, in Aylesbury. We shall reside with my uncle, Sir Henry Montagu, at his home in Bloomsbury Square. I shall leave you now, for there is much packing to be done. I cannot express my excitement to be in the capital after an eternity in the wilderness. With affection, Beattie
