Complete these notes on how you will meet the assessment criteria 1 Criterion A: Productive Skills: 5 marks - fluent, clear speech / effective use of intonation: practice in the group - accurate, varied language: some less common vocabulary you will use: - some sentences you will use showing variety in grammar: Criterion B: Interactive & Receptive Skills 5 marks - express simple & complex ideas well read about the topic to find examples; practice in the group - maintain a conversation involve the audience (see above) Common Guidelines for Presenters Speaking -­‐ Speak clearly, with a mixture of short and long sentences. -­‐ Your interactive oral should have an introduction, body & conclusion. -­‐ Use transitions -­‐ words/ intonation/ body language -­‐ to show when you are moving from one part to another, or from one speaker to the next. Powerpoint: Follow these rules unless you have good reasons not to: -­‐ Maximum 2 slides per 5 minutes, unless you have a good reason to show them faster. -­‐ Clearest font is Arial, minimum size 16, larger depending on size of room & audience, bold. -­‐ Avoid italics as they are not clear -­‐ if you have a reason to use them, make the font larger. -­‐ Only use other fonts if there is a good reason, e.g. different topic, quotation, reference. 2 -­‐ Maximum 12 words per slide, except for labels and direct quotations. -­‐ No more than 2 colors per slide. -­‐ Slides on the same topic should have the same background. -­‐ Read out the words on the slide before saying different words, so the audience can follow both. Video / Audio Recordings If you use these, let the audience see you watching with interest. If you do something else, it may distract their attention or make it seem that the recording is not interesting. Notes or palm cards -­‐ It is better not to use these so you can face the audience. -­‐ If necessary, use a short list of words or phrases as reminders. -­‐ Do not read whole sentences as it makes you look down, and can lead to unnatural intonation. 3
