About Virtual Labs
Physical distances and the lack of resources make us unable to perform experiments, especially
when they involve sophisticated instruments. Web-based and video-based courses address the
issue of teaching to some extent. Conducting joint experiments by two participating institutions
and also sharing costly resources has always been a challenge. With the present day internet and
computer technologies the above limitations can no more hamper students and researchers in
enhancing their skills and knowledge. Today most equipment has a computer interface for
control and data storage. It is possible to design good experiments around some of these
equipments which would enhance the learning of a student. A virtual laboratory is a tool for
distance learning and/or experimentation that allows people to share knowledge, data, voice,
video, tools, and many other resources, thus, contributing to an increase of the effectiveness of
scientific research and widening the use of scarce or costly equipments.
A two day workshop on Virtual Labs is being organized on Feb 12-13,
2016 by G. B. Pant Engineering College, New Delhi in association with
Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Roorkee, under the banner of IEEE
GBPEC Student Branch, Delhi.
Objectives of Virtual Labs Hands-On Workshop
 To provide remote-access to labs in various disciplines of science and engineering.
 To help students in learning basic and advanced concepts through remote
experimentation.
 To provide a complete learning management system including additional web-resources,
video-lectures, animated demonstrations and self-evaluation.
 To share costly equipment and resources, which are otherwise available to limited
number of users due to constraints of time and geographical distances.
 To provide an approximate version of the ‘real-world’ experiments.

Registration Fee
Registration fee for the workshop is Rs. 100 only which includes registration kit and
refreshments. One registration fee entitles participation in any number of the lab sessions
depending on one’s area of interest.
Registration Method
The registration for the workshop should be done prior to 5th Feb., 2016 through online or
offline mode. The number of participants is limited to 60 in each session. Hence, it is required to
confirm your seat in one or more sessions through on-line registration.
