About the Institute for Medieval
and Renaissance Studies
The Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies of
the University of Leuven (Belgium) was founded in
1966. It stimulates research and graduate teaching in
the history of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It
enjoys a strong international reputation thanks to the
dedication of several research centres that are involved in the Institute, such as
the Research Unit for the History
of the Middle Ages, the De WulfMansion Centre, Illuminare, the
Aristoteles Latinus, and the Seminarium Philologiae Humanisticae.
Students and scholars can take
profit from the excellent libraries
at the KU Leuven, among them
those at the faculties of Arts,
Philosophy, and Theology and Religious Studies.

Strengthened by its expertise in ancient and modern
languages, KU Leuven's historical-philological research strongly emphasizes the multidisciplinary
study of texts. Special attention is devoted to the
history of the Low Countries and to the influence of
the Church on intellectual and cultural life. In this
context, the IMRS has a privileged partnership with
LECTIO (Leuven Centre for the Study of the Transmission of Texts and Ideas in Antiquity, the Middle Ages,
and the Renaissance).

Who can start the programme?
More information?
To start the programme, you should have obtained a
Master degree (or equivalent) in Humanities by the
start of the academic year and display a substantial
academic background in the field of study of the Middle
Ages and/or the Renaissance. Moreover, you should
demonstrate a sufficient knowledge of English.
