Abstract The DREAMS ITN participated in the Flemish Science Week at KU Leuven in October 2014, presenting a tutorial along with some fun demonstrations about the impact of reverberation on speech and audio perception and technology. This outreach event, entitled ‘’Je oren zijn slimmer dan je denkt” (Dutch for “Your ears are smarter than you think”) was jointly prepared by six DREAMS Fellows during their Spring 2014 secondments at KU Leuven. The presentation is aimed at familiarizing high-school students with the phenomenon of acoustic reverberation, the impact it has on speech and audio processing tasks such as speech recognition, source localization, and environment classification, and the research challenges that are yet to be tackled.
