WEIGHTED COURSES:
Monmouth Regional High School has six levels of courses which receive a specific weighting factor for grades
received at a given level. The highest weight is given to Advanced Placement courses, followed by Honors
courses, College Preparatory courses, etc.

CURRICULUM:
Advanced Placement courses are offered in Art, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, Calculus, Statistics,
Computer Programming, English, French, Spanish, U.S. History, World History, Psychology, American Government &
Politics, Economics and European Government. Honors level courses are offered in the five academic disciplines and in
advanced elective offerings in the applied technology area. In order to meet the needs of our diverse population, a wide
array of interesting courses supplement the traditional high school curriculum such as Great Books, Humanities, African
American Studies, Cisco Academy, Electronics, Engineering Graphics, Cooperative Education, Photography and Video/
Film Studies and Drama. Articulated programs with Brookdale Community College, Monmouth University, Seton Hall
University and Kean University make it possible for students to earn college credits while in high school. A four year gifted
and talented program, the AP Academy, is offered to select incoming freshmen, “a school within a school”, the specialized
program offers seminar, a capstone project and a minimum of eight AP classes beginning with AP World History in grade
9. The mentored Capstone Project is a 2 year project culminating with a formal presentation. Original thought, research
and personal reflection are integral parts of the program.

The communities which form our district include Eatontown, Tinton Falls, Shrewsbury Township and the
military families of Earle Naval Weapons Station.
SCHOOL:
Opened in 1961, Monmouth Regional High School is a four year, comprehensive public high school with
a diverse student population of approximately 1000 students, including 54% White, 18% Black, 13%
Hispanic, 6% Asian, 1% American Indian, 1% Hawaiian Pacificand 7% Multiracial.
ACCREDITATION:
The high school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools and Colleges and
approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. Institutional memberships in NACAC and CEEB
are maintained.
FACULTY:
With 45.2% of the professional staff holding advanced degrees, an average of 14 years of teaching experience for Monmouth Regional High School classroom teachers, and a 14 to 1 student to teacher ratio,
Monmouth Regional High School provides the expertise and individualization to service all students.
GENERAL ORGANIZATION OF SCHOOL YEAR:
Monmouth Regional High School schedules a four quarter school year, nine weeks in each quarter. The
preponderance of courses are full year which yields 5 credits upon completion. Lab science courses,
semester and quarter courses yield proportionate credits. A full year course meets 235 minutes per week;
laboratory science courses meet an additional 47 minutes per week.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:
In addition to reaching proficiency on state testing, all graduates must successfully complete a minimum
of 120 credits, including 4 years each of English and Physical Education/Health, 3 years of Mathematics,
3 years of Science, 2 years of U.S. History, 1 year of World History, 2 years of Fine/Performing/Practical
Arts and half a year of Financial Literacy.

96 - 100 = A+ (4.5)
92 - 95 = A (4.0)
88 - 91 = B+ (3.5)
84 - 87 = B (3.0)
80 - 83 = C+ (2.5)
77 - 79 = C (2.0)
74 - 76 = D+ (1.5)
70 - 73 = D (1.0)
0 - 69 = E (0.0)
GPA AND CLASS RANK COMPUTATION:
Monmouth Regional High School has a weighted grade point average and class rank, determined by the
total quality points divided by the total credits attempted. Quality points for a course are calculated by
multiplying the final grade by the weighting factor and the credits for the course. The class rank and GPA
are cumulative. GPA is calculated on a 4.5 scale. Rank is based on a weighted numeric scale of 100%.
