Local life
City days
Weekend leisure
Quinnipiac is situated in the town of Hamden, named one of
America’s Best Places to Live by Money Magazine 2014. Next
to the University is Sleeping Giant State Park, a great area for
hiking with stunning views from the summit. You also can enjoy
a leisurely stroll along the Farmington Canal Trail, making sure
you stop off for delicious homemade ice cream along the way.
On the weekend, take the University’s shuttle bus to New Haven
for shopping in the downtown area, or stroll along Chapel Street
taking in the gift shops, boutiques and architecture. The famous
Neapolitan pizza is a must-try and Japanese, Thai and Italian
restaurants are very popular. Watch the latest movies at the
stylish Bow Tie Cinema or enjoy lunch and browse through the
books at the eclectic Atticus Bookstore.
For a relaxing day with your new friends, visit the historic New
Haven Green in downtown New Haven, or take a picnic to
Lighthouse Point Park and enjoy the beach and water views of
Long Island Sound. The Sleeping Giant Golf Course is right next
to the University and there is always an exciting local baseball,
hockey or basketball game to watch.
Entertainment
New York City is just a 90-minute train ride away and perfect
for a day trip to shop, dine out, and watch a Broadway musical.
The historic city of Boston is only two hours northeast. There
are many surrounding areas of natural beauty within the state of
Connecticut that are perfect for day trips, such as West Rock
Ridge State Park and Kent Falls State Park.
Art and culture
With its many museums, galleries and theaters, New Haven is
the culture capital of Connecticut and home to Yale University.
America’s oldest museum, the Yale University Art Gallery, boasts
a supreme collection including Van Gogh’s ‘The Night Café’,
while the Beinecke Library is popular for both its outstanding
rare book collection and unique modern architecture.
The large student population in the area means that there is
fantastic nightlife every night of the week and something for
everyone. Try Firehouse 12 or the iconic Toad’s Place for local
bands and live music, or the Joker’s Wild Comedy Club for the
funniest show in town.
