Study Guide for Test 1 There will be an objective section on terminology (similar to the fiction terms quiz, but adding, and emphasizing, drama). This will contribute about one-fourth of the points on the test. There will be one short essay (one or two paragraphs) on either “Soldier’s Home” (pages 185-90) or “Young Goodman Brown” (398-406), in which you will discuss the story’s significance in its historical context. There will be three additional short essay questions. These will ask you to discuss a passage from one of the works listed below. I will give you the passage on the test, and ask you to discuss how that passage illustrates theme, imagery, setting, character, or point of view. I may tell you what work the passage is from, or I may ask you to identify the work. These are the works from which I may give you passages: ”Killings,” 107-119 Trifles, 1368-77 Fences, 2024-72 You will have some choice for these essays. For example, I may give you five questions and have you choose any three, or give you two from which to choose for each essay.
