ADVANCE RELEASE ON EXTERNAL TRADE
AUGUST, 2007.
EXPORTS
According to the provisional figures compiled by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, exports from
Pakistan during August, 2007 amounted to Rs.89,384 million (provisional) as against Rs.89,747 million
(provisional) in July, 2007 and Rs.90,389 million during August, 2006 showing a decrease of 0.40%
over July,2007 and of 1.11% over August, 2006.

In terms of US dollars the exports decreased by 0.60% in August, 2007 $ 1,477,068 thousands
(provisional) when compared with July, 2007 $ 1,485,932 thousands (provisional) and by 1.43% as
compared to August, 2006 $ 1,498,547 thousands.

Exports during July-August, 2007 totalled Rs.179,131 million (provisional) as against Rs.171,273
million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 4.59%.

In terms of US dollars the exports during July-August, 2007 totalled $ 2,963,000 thousands
(provisional) as against $ 2,840,548 thousands during the corresponding period of last year showing an
increase of 4.31%.

Main commodities of exports during August, 2007 were Knitwear (Rs.12,258 million), Bedwear
(Rs.9,340 million), Cotton cloth (Rs.9,336 million), Readymade garments (Rs.7,555 million), Cotton
yarn (Rs.7,363 million), Art, silk & Synthetic textile (Rs.3,322 million), Rice basmati (Rs.3,096 million),
Madeup articles (excl. towels, bedware) (Rs.2,927 million), Towels (Rs.2,510 million), and Petroleum
Top Naphta ( Rs.2,063 million) .

IMPORTS

Imports into Pakistan during August, 2007 amounted to Rs.166,288 million (provisional) as against
Rs.155,517 million (provisional) in July, 2007 and Rs.152,220 million during August, 2006 showing an
increase of 6.93% over July, 2007 and of 9.24% over August, 2006.

In terms of US dollars the imports increased by 6.72% in August, 2007 $ 2,747,907 thousands
(provisional) as compared to July, 2007 $ 2,574,880 thousands (provisional) and by 8.89% as compared
to August, 2006 $ 2,523,627 thousands.

Imports during July-August, 2007 totalled Rs.321,805 million (provisional) as against Rs.300,483
million during the corresponding period of last year showing an increase of 7.10%.

In terms of US dollars the imports during July-August, 2007 totalled $ 5,322,787 thousands
(provisional) as against $ 4,983,564 thousands during the corresponding period of last year showing an
increase of 6.81%.
11. Main commodities of imports during August, 2007 were Petroleum products (Rs.20,350 million),
Petroleum crude (Rs.19,465 million), Other Apparatus (Telecom) ( Rs.10,120 million), Iron & steel
(Rs.8,141 million), Palm oil (Rs.6,322 million), Plastic materials (Rs.5,702 million), Raw cotton
(Rs.4,542 million), Electrical machinery & apparatus (Rs.4,238 million), Mobile phone (Rs.4,237 million)
and Power generating machinery (Rs.4,014 million).

13. Based on the provisional figures of imports and exports the balance of trade in August, 2007 was
(-)76,904 million in terms of Rupees and (-)1,270,839 thousands in US dollars. The balance of trade
figures cumulative from July-August, 2007 were (-)142,674 million in terms of Rupees and
(-)2,359,787 thousand in US dollars.
