Tips:
1. To see examples and to cite additional common sources such as films, radio broadcasts,
letters, interviews, cartoons, etc. see chapter 5 of the MLA Handbook: 7th ed. (Call Number
808.02 MLA). The MLA Handbook is a comprehensive and authoritative MLA guide.
2. Citing a book by two or more authors—give the names in the same order as they appear
on the title page, reversing the name of the first author only, add a comma and give the
other name(s) in normal form (Gilyard, Keith, Deborah Holdstein, and Charles Schuster.)
3. Citing a book by more than three authors—give the name of the first author only followed
by et al. (Gilyard, Keith, et al.). Note that et al. means “and others”.
