The course is approximately 20 hours in length and conducted over 2 ½ days. It is constructed
around a series of instructor-led “tours” in ACL, each of which is followed by a participant activity.
The course culminates in a comprehensive case study activity during which participants have an
opportunity to practice all skills delivered during the course. The course outline is as follows:
Day 1:
• Review of Beginner Training and Basic Commands
• Data Analysis Process and Protiviti Methodology
• Using the Command Line and Scripting Defined
• The Script Recorder and Expressions Builder
• Basic Command Scripting
• Audit Trail and Logs
• Scripting Functions and Computed Fields
• Joins and Appends in Scripting
Day 2:
• Best Practices and Commenting
• Complex Functions and Nesting
• Groups and Workspaces
• Variables within Scripting, Displaying Variables
• Other Commands: Benford’s Law, Cross Tabulate, Relational Joins
• Review of Important Functions
Day 3 (1/2 day):
• Unusual Data Types and Work-Arounds
• Case Study
• Wrap Up

Upon completion of the course participants will have learned and practiced the following ACL skills:
• Use of the Script Recorder and basic scripting exercises for several ACL commands
• Use of the Audit Trail and Logs
• Best Practices
