JOB DESCRIPTON MANAGER, MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS (1.0 FTE) Introduction Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement, the Manager, Marketing and Communications protects and promotes the CMHA brand promise, and manages the Agency’s reputation externally and internally (with board, staff & branches). The position will lead, plan, facilitate and monitor a coherent and effective approach to the agency’s marketing and communication programs. These programs are varied and include websites, electronic newsletters, publications, events, fee-for-service communication activities, and media (traditional and social), advertising and brand management strategies. This role involves supervision and oversight as well as direct work. Duties and responsibilities Lead all facets of marketing and communication program development and delivery, from proposal writing, through planning, budgeting, implementation, evaluation and report writing. Liaises with program leads to meet communications and marketing needs (e.g. increasing sales, donations or participants) by writing communications and marketing plans. Plans may include strategic analysis, competitive analysis, objectives, key messages, tactics and budget. Researches, considers and integrates online marketing and social media strategies into any/all planning. Especially in: fundraising and public policy Evaluates effectiveness of currently used communication channels and recommends alternate approaches Researches industries and markets to identify and prioritize growth opportunities for CMHA Oversees the development of brand stories, positioning statements and brand messaging statements Presents quarterly reports to help evaluate the success of various marketing campaigns Provides quarterly media reports. Establishes a baseline measurement system Ensures consistency of quality, accountability and high standards in all communication products and events. Develops and maintains relationships with media. Serves as proactive and reactive media contact and researcher for the agency, and seeks out and trains appropriate spokespeople. Assembles and maintains a list of key media contacts, and CMHA spokespeople/experts, across BC. Coordinates messaging and contributes to media releases, ad copy, opinion editorials, pitches and invites for media. Writes, coordinates and secures media sponsorship proposals Monitors and is accountable for all program and service expenditures, and suggests remedial action when necessary. This includes responsibility for meeting fee-for-service communication revenue targets. Applies the Agency’s Diversity Lens and Framework for Support in all assignments associated with this role. Monitors and completes appropriate reporting to funders. Provides orientation and ongoing supervision of all departmental staff, including performance management and completion of regular performance appraisals. Support Branch Development and Support role to monitor and enforce Branch-Division Agreement related to web standards. Qualifications Education: University graduate, preferably with graduate level training in an appropriate discipline such as marketing, communications, public relations Experience: At least 5 years relevant experience, with a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience Overall project and program management, with a commitment to high standards of quality Strategic and conceptual thinking and analysis, including ability to adapt communication vehicles based on organizational or public need, outcome, or opportunity Team-building and supervising staff, delegating tasks and authority, and coaching to improve staff performance Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and promotion, brand and reputation management Experience developing, planning, implementing and evaluating communication and marketing vehicles and campaigns – print, electronic, event, and media – in a proactive way and with a mind to the best service for the intended audiences Experience in developing and executing social media specific campaigns Experience in website development Excellent written and oral communications skills (plain language) Excellent time management skills and attention to detail Budget management experience including efficient and cost-effective management of resources Knowledge of graphic design and print production Developing and monitoring adherence to brand protocols Media relations including monitoring and seeding stories Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands Establishing and maintaining effective relationships and partnership with internal and external stakeholders including media Proven ability to deliver on assignments and overcome challenges, e.g. delays, change in direction and scope of work; and revised budgets. Knowledge of (and experience in) the charitable sector is an asset Personal experience with mental health issues and services, through self or loved ones, is an asset in this role Working conditions This position is located in Vancouver. The usual work week is 37.5 hours and the Manager is expected to be in the office during core hours as defined in the personnel policy. Most work is accomplished during usual business hours, although the candidate will need to maintain some flexible scheduling and may need to work some evenings and weekends. The Manager is expected to carry a CMHA BC cell phone and be available during weekday hours. Overtime may be required in this position.
