Restaurants include Chick-Fil-A, Crepe Royale, Domino’s Pizza, Balagen’s Café, and Joffrey’s Coffee Shop. Facilities Planning and Construction is designing a new Classroom Building with large 350 and 450 seat auditorium style classrooms to accommodate the University’s growing student population. Facilities Planning and Construction utilized technology fees to up-graded the 2nd floor of the Library creating collaborative learning areas knows as the Knowledge Commons. Become more inclusive and diverse • Facilities Planning and Construction advertised for Continuing Service Small Business Enterprise Certified General Contractors to perform work on $1 million and under projects. • Facilities Planning and Construction participated in judging the student chapter of Habitat for Humanity “Shack-a-Thon”. • Facilities Planning and Construction completed the Veterans Academic Resource Center in the Arena to recognize and support student veterans as they make the transition from the military to student life. • Facilities Planning and Construction dramatically increased its Small, Minority and Women Business Enterprise expenditures in Construction and Architectural/Engineering services from $811,675 in 2009/10 to $11,633,730 in 2010/11; an increase of 1,433%. Be America’s leading partnership university • Facilities Planning and Construction works closely with local, regional and state governments on all campus master plan updates • Facilities Planning and Construction is collaborating with ROTC to provide a new state of the art facility for the +500 cadet student program. Other accomplishments of the division • • • • • Facilities Planning and Construction has attained LEED Silver certification on the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences Research Facility at Lake Nona, LEED Gold certification on Physical Science II and Environmental Support Lab Buildings, and eleven other projects area awaiting final review and certification through the US Green Building Council (USGBC). Facilities Planning and Construction recently completed construction on UCF Pegasus Health at Quadrangle which is the University’s first Family Practice facility for the College of Medicine. Facilities Planning and Construction successfully attained Certificate of Completion/Occupancy on 241 Facilities Improvement projects throughout the main and regional campuses. Facilities Planning and Construction edited and published the UCF Design, Construction, and Renovation Standards to ensure consistency throughout all facilities and capital improvement projects. Facilities Planning and Construction recently completed construction of the UCF College of Medicine at the Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona. Cost effectiveness • Facilities Planning and Construction implemented GC quotes to ensure competitive quotes are attained for continuing services and maintenance contracts. • Facilities Planning and Construction realized a savings of $150,000 on the Physical Sciences Project by deleting the original exterior finishes on the west end of Phase I and installing an inexpensive temporary facade until Phase II began construction. Technology • • Facilities Planning and Construction completed construction on a new 12,000-gallon E-85 Fuel Station Island to accommodate the requirement of the University’s Flex Fuel Vehicles. Facilities Planning and Construction implemented that all new capital projects be designed utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM). Employee achievements and awards • • • Lori Baker and Larry Chmura from Facilities Planning & Construction have attained their LEED Accredited Professional certification. Larry Chmura received a certificate for completing the Diversity Leadership Series. Donna Reid and Christy Collier from Facilities Planning & Construction received a Certificate of Achievement and a Certificate of Appreciation for her role in the 2010 Florida State Employee Charity Campaign (FSECC). Charitable in Intercampus Giving • Facilities Planning and Construction Team led by Donna Reid, placed 1st out of 52 departments in the 2010 annual Star Bank Challenge an initiative which raises money for charitable organizations in our local community. Departmental Highlights • • Parking Garage H, which was recently completed by Facilities Planning & Construction, won an Associate Builders & Contractors (ABC) Award of Excellence submitted by the Design/Build contractor. Award going to be presented on July 29th.
