The Vision Foglia Family Named Philanthropist of the Year www.alexianfoundation.org A Winter 2015 Celebration honors donor community n inspiring program honored the Foglia family as the Alexian Brothers Foundation’s Philanthropist of the Year and created a palpable feeling of community and pride at the Annual Meeting and Donor Recognition Celebration on October 26 at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Schaumburg. “I’ve always felt a kinship to the Alexian Brothers and the devotion they have to helping people,” said Vincent Foglia, after accepting the Philanthropist of the Year Award on behalf of his family. “After all, what are we doing here if we can’t give back?” Several families who received services from AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Health System thanks to philanthropy joined a record number of donors—more than 220—at the event. The families helped present the Foglias’ award and shared their stories and gratitude in videos highlighting achievements that donors made possible. “Because of you, I’m not homeless anymore,” said Kevin R., who lives in one of the AMITA Health Alexian Brothers supportive housing programs. Vincent Foglia with Mark A. Frey, AMITA Health and AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Health System President and CEO. Peyton M. shared how her behavioral health treatment helped her stop hurting herself and change her outlook. “Mostly, it’s finally being able to continue to live my life without feeling negative,” she said. “I’m going to get into college. I’m going to do great things like I know I’m supposed to do.” Long-time supporters of the Alexian Brothers Foundation Vincent and Patricia Foglia are philanthropic leaders throughout the community. Message from Melanie I Dear Friend of the Alexian Brothers Foundation, n reflecting on the past year, I keep coming back to gratitude. From a Ball de Fleur this past May that raised a record $375,000 to our recent and inspiring annual meeting that honored the Foglia family and numerous other philanthropic leaders who make our vision come to life, there is a great deal to be thankful for. Our Foundation Women & Children’s Hospital Board surpassed its fundraising goal in its 3rd Annual Off to the Races. Foundation Board Members and community leaders have rallied around an exciting vision to extend our exceptional behavioral health services to an even broader swath of the community. Your generosity has made possible countless success stories. We’ve made an effort to convey the impact your investment in our community has had in our recently released donor impact report, which you can view at alexiandonorimpact2015.com. I encourage you to take a few minutes to click through the report. Through videos, photos and stories, you can see and hear directly from individuals and families whose lives your generosity has changed. To responsibly steward our resources, we made this year’s report 100% digital. I sincerely hope you enjoy the content and find the format convenient, and would love to hear your feedback. Please call us at 847.385.7300 or email alexianfoundation@alexian.net to share your thoughts. Melanie Furlan, Vice President, Advancement, Alexian Brothers Foundation As grateful as I am for all that we accomplished in 2015, I am even more excited about what lies ahead in 2016. I anticipate a hugely successful event season, kicking off with a special 30th anniversary Ball de Fleur on May 7, 2016, at the Four Seasons Hotel, followed by two golf outings and our Off to the Races event. Event sponsors are crucial to our ability to sustain our philanthropy-dependent ministries, and I thank all of you in advance for your generous support. Momentum around our behavioral healthcare vision will continue to build as we raise awareness of the increasing need in our community and of the incredible services that AMITA Health Behavioral Medicine provides. To be sure, this is a time of uncertainty in healthcare and in our state. State funding has been cut for many ministries that serve incredibly vulnerable people, including homeless men and women, and individuals impacted by severe and persistent mental illness. More cuts are expected. Amid this uncertainty, your generosity buoys me. Your choice to open your hearts to our mission inspires me. I hope that we can continue to strengthen the community of benefactors that we have created together in the Alexian Brothers Foundation, and that it sustains programs of which we can all be very proud. The individuals and families we serve are more like us than they are different. That knowledge and that belief unite us and make the work we do incredibly powerful. It says a great deal about you that you choose to give your resources so generously to our Foundation. Thank you for continuing to turn toward people in our community who need our help. I wish you all the best of health and happiness throughout this holiday season and in the coming year. Sincerely, Vice President, Advancement Alexian Brothers Foundation SAVE THE DATE 30th Annual Ball de Fleur – “Treasured Giving” May 7, 2016 – Four Seasons Hotel, Chicago Celebrate 30 years of giving back with pearls of charity, faith and healing.
