Ogdensburg, New York. For more than 125 years, our
staff has been dedicated to delivering high quality
health care with state-of-the-art technology. Claxton-Hepburn
has kept pace with the advancement of technology with the
addition of a 128-slice CT scanner, PET imaging, 1.4T Signa
Excite HDx MRI, full field digital mammography, 3D/4D
ultrasound, and a 24-station dialysis unit. The 130-bed facility
includes a 28-bed acute care mental health center, and a 15bed acute care rehabilitation unit.

Our Medical Center is a regional referral center serving a
population of 110,000 in St. Lawrence County and provides
primary care for a population of 40,000 in Ogdensburg and the
surrounding communities.
Our medical staff provides excellent care and consists of the
following specialties: internal medicine, nephrology,
gastroenterology, critical care, medical oncology, radiation
oncology, family practice, general surgery, retinal and pediatric
ophthalmology, urology, orthopedics, obstetrics and
gynecology, pain management, pediatrics, anesthesiology,
pathology, oral surgery, interventional radiology and
emergency medicine.
In today's challenging healthcare environment, ClaxtonHepburn Medical Center, a progressive, non-profit healthcare
center, remains dedicated to high quality healthcare. The last
decade has seen significant growth with the recruitment of
additional physicians in existing and new specialties, the
constant upgrade of equipment and the addition of many new
services at the Medical Center.
In recent years, Claxton-Hepburn’s commitment to quality has
been recognized multiple national accreditations in radiology,
cancer, and cardiology, as well as excelling with Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Value Based Purchasing.
Claxton-Hepburn’s most recent quality achievement was an A
rating by The Leapfrog Group.
The campus includes the main hospital, the Richard E. Winter
Cancer Treatment Center and the Dr. Ravinder N. Agarwal
Renal Center. Located off campus, is the Rev. Thomas T.
Patterson Wound Healing Center, providing specialized care in
wound management, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
A construction project is currently underway at our Cancer
Center to add a second linear accelerator. With the addition of
the Varian Trilogy unit, we will be able to expand the services
we provide to our community.

Cost of Living
Throughout the area there are waterfront homes,
undeveloped acreage for custom-built homes,
farmland, and established homes within the city
limits, all available for a very reasonable price. Rental
homes are available for interim housing until you find
or build your dream home. Many people often own
homes in town as well as waterfront camps for use
during the summer months to take full advantage of
the beautiful warm weather.
Weather
Ogdensburg and St. Lawrence County generally
have mild winters. Located north of the Lake Effect
snow belt, the mean snowfall is 66 inches.
Temperatures in the summer range from 70-90
degrees Fahrenheit allowing you to take full
advantage of all the area has offer. In January the
mean temp is 18 degrees, great for skiing and
snowmobiling.

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center is located on beautiful, St.
Lawrence River in northern New York State. Enjoy boating, fishing,
skiing, and scuba diving in crystal clear water of the St. Lawrence
River. Ogdensburg is home to the Frederic Remington Art
Museum, the famous western artist. Less than an hour away is
Ottawa, the capital city of Canada with great dining and cultural
activities. It’s a short drive to the Adirondack Mountains and Lake
Placid for skiing, hiking, or camping. Montreal offers Quebec City
with a European flair and is just two hours away.
Two college towns are nearby. Canton, the home of SUNY
Canton and St. Lawrence University is just 20 minutes away.
Forty minutes away is Potsdam, home of SUNY Potsdam and
Clarkson University.
In Ogdensburg, the school system is very strong with advanced
placement courses for college credit available at the high
school. The schools are noted for both strong academic focus
and a wide variety of extra-curricular activities that appeal to a
broad range of interests. Middle and high school facilities
include a planetarium, weather station, TV station, indoor ice
skating rink, indoor olympic-size swimming pool, and a sports
training gym. Students participate in both academic and
athletic competitions.
