EXCESSIVEABSENCEPROCESS
Excessiveabsencescanresultinaninstructordroppingyoufromaclass.Ifyoustopattending
classforanyreasonyoushouldcontacttheinstructorandtheAdmissionsandRecordsofficeto
officiallywithdrawfromtheclass.Absencesmaybeconsideredexcessivewhenmorethan12.5%
ofthetotalcontacthoursofinstructioninasemester,includinglectureandlabaremissed(See

IfyouarenotdroppedfromthecourseoryouhavereachedtheSix‐DropRule(seee‐catalog)you
willreceivethegradeearnedinthatclassatthetimeyoustoppedattending.
CompletionandGraduation
Completingthecorecurriculumandearninganassociate’sdegreeisanimportantstepwhether
youplantotransferorentertheworkforce.Youcanmakethehoursyouhaveearnedworkforyou
whenyoufollowadegree/transferplanthatwillenableyoutogetanassociatedegree.Itreally
willmakeadifference.

 Researchindicatesthatgettingyourassociatedegreebeforetransferringgivesyoua25%
greaterchanceofcompletingabachelor’sdegree.
 Mosttransferringstudentshavecompletedcorecurriculumrequirementsthatwillapplyto
thetransferringinstitution.Youaremorelikelytobeacceptedtoauniversitybyfollowinga
transferplan.
 Entry‐levelsalariesaverageover$7,000ayearmorewhenyouhaveanassociatedegreethan
theywouldwithahighschooldiplomaalone.
 Tobeeligibletoapplyforcareeradvancement85%ofbetterpayingjobsinSanAntonio
requireanassociatedegree.

formalregalia(capandgown)–givesyouasenseofaccomplishmentandmakesyouarole

Allstudentsmustcompleteastudentdevelopmentcoursedesignedtohelpthemsuccessfully
transitiontocollegeandbetterunderstandtheAlamoColleges’expectations.Student
Development(SDEV)coursesoffertechniquesinlife‐longlearning,creativeandcriticalthinking,
timemanagement,testandnotetaking,studying,careerplanningandtheestablishmentoflasting
relationships.StudentswhosuccessfullycompleteSDEVorLearningFrameworkscourseshavea
provenrecordofhigherretentionandpersistenceincollege.Avarietyofstudentdevelopment
coursesareofferedtofitspecificstudentneeds.Seethee‐catalogtoseewhichoneappliestoyou.
StudentGradeChangesandAppeals
Youhaveamaximumofoneyearfromtheendoftheterminwhichthefinalgradewasissuedto
requestareviewofthegradeorpetitionforagradechange.Judgingthequalityofacademic
performancerestswiththeinstructorassignedtothecourse.Ifyoubelievethatthegradeis
incorrect,youshouldscheduleaconferencewiththeinstructoror,iftheinstructorisnot
available,thedepartmentchair.Ifyoustillarenotsatisfiedwiththegrade,youcanfilean

WithdrawalforMilitaryService
Militarystudentsmaywanttheirtranscriptstoreflectthattheywithdrewduetomilitaryreasons
ormayrequestthattheirtranscriptsshownoindicationthattheywereenrolled,andthe
course(s)willbepermanentlyremovedfromtheirtranscript.Ifastudentwithdrawsasaresultof
beingcalledtoactivemilitaryservice,theAlamoColleges,atthestudent’soptionandwithproper
documentation,shall:

coordinated,anddelegatedfromtheEOC.TheEOCwillbesuppliedwithappropriateequipment,
suppliesandtoolsfora24x7capability,includingportabilityformovementtoanAlternateEOC.
