CAPS Stress, Anxiety and Mental Health Workshop Nov. 5
Are you feeling stressed out or anxious? Do you see fellow graduate students
struggling with eating disorders, depression or addiction? You don't have to deal
with this alone—UC has many resources to help. Please join us on Thursday,
Nov. 5, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., in the Harambee room in the African American
Resource and Cultural Center (AACRC, 60 W. Charlton) for our brown bag lunch
workshop: "Thriving in Graduate School – Stress, Anxiety and Mental Health
Resources." At this session, you'll hear an "In Our Own Voice" presentation from
the UC chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and learn about the
stress management services (including a graduate student group) offered by
Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS). Please register at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/stress-workshop2015. (Registration information
will not be shared but will be used for email reminders for this workshop.)
Innovate to Protect the Mill Creek Watershed at Spark UC Nov. 7
Spark UC, Collaboration for a Purpose, will provide students the opportunity to
work on a real world problem in their community while collaborating with students
from other colleges at UC. The 2015 edition of Spark is titled "Mill Creek Alive".
Students will work in teams of 5 to create 3–5 recreational areas along the Mill
Creek watershed. But there's a catch: no more than two team members can be
from the same college! The event will take place on Nov. 7, 8 a.m.–6 p.m., with
the support of mentors from UC, Rockfish, Rhinegeist and Queen City Angels.
Register at http://www.ucinnovate.com/register/ and email
UCinnovate@gmail.com with any questions.
Increasing Research Funding Productivity Seminar Nov. 10
In an era of tight budgets and extreme competition for research dollars, people
often expend a great deal of time and energy in the unsuccessful pursuit of funds
for their projects. This interactive and dynamic seminar, led by Dr. Marshall
Kaplan on Nov. 10, 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. and 3:30–5 p.m., deals with the
realities of today’s funding challenges and the complete end-to-end process by
which successful faculty members and research groups achieve sponsorship
from government agencies and other sources. Register on OneStop and email
Philip Taylor at taylorp4@ucmail.uc.edu for more information.
