BPOS-D (which stands for “Dedicated”) is targeted at large enterprises that have
hundreds to thousands of seats. The servers are hosted at Microsoft and dedicated
to the customer with no shared server infrastructure. In this mode, each customer
receives a dedicated installation of Microsoft SharePoint or Exchange server.
BPOS-S (which stands for “Standard”) is targeted at small- to medium-size businesses that generally have less than 25 seats.
The servers are hosted at Microsoft and shared among many customers. A single Microsoft SharePoint installation (i.e.
SharePoint Online) or a single Exchange installation (i.e. Exchange Online) is shared between multiple customers.
BPOS-F (which stands for “Federal”) is targeted at government agencies and includes additional security features and
compliance certificates.
The offering also adds a layer of intelligence to ensure that consolidated, virtualized applications and services are accessed by end-users
everywhere in a way that enables them to be productive, while helping to deliver the expected cost and management efficiencies.

Microsoft Exchange Online - Microsoft® Exchange Online provides a remotely hosted enterprise e-mail messaging solution based on
Microsoft Exchange Server. Riverbed's optimizations work in both encrypted and unencrypted environments for Exchange Online. Also
Riverbed is the only WAN optimization vendor that can optimize encrypted MAPI. Customers accessing Microsoft Exchange Online get a
choice of the following protocols to access their email in the BPOS-D environment – RPC/HTTPS or Outlook Web Access and MAPI.
Riverbed Solution delivers bandwidth optimizations for RPC over HTTPS and in case of MAPI both latency and bandwidth optimizations
just as in the case of an on-premise Exchange optimization scenario. This works for both encrypted as well as unencrypted MAPI.
Microsoft SharePoint Online - Microsoft® SharePoint® Online offers enterprise companies and organizations a flexible, Web-based
solution that includes tools and services to help users manage information and collaborate effectively. Based on Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007, this Microsoft hosted solution provides users the ability to easily create and manage custom team- and project–
focused sites for collaboration and personal productivity. In this mode customers access their SharePoint instance (hosted by Microsoft)
via HTTP. Riverbed's RiOS can optimize the HTTP traffic and further optimize the authentication requests that are part of the new
SharePoint instance. Riverbed also accelerates SSL traffic, so organizations that run SharePoint via HTTPS can still achieve LAN-like
performance without compromising their security.
