COLLINGTON BREWERS: SUNDAY, JANUARY 17 – 5:30PM, DINING
ROOM: The Collington Brewers will make two batches of beer. Both will be
wheat beers. After our last brew, we decided to refine our recipe for Belgium
witbier. The second brew will be a honey wheat similar to President
Obama’s White House beer. Experienced brewers as well as people who
just want to join the fun and learn are welcome. Meet in the self-serve area
of the dining room. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that will not slip on
damp floors.

MLK JR. CLOSINGS: MONDAY, JANUARY 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
is a holiday for most staff. The Clocktower, Fitness Center, Pool, Admin
offices, Resident Services, Salon 2226, Bank, etc. will be closed. There will
be no S.A.G.E. classes, Wii Bowling, Etc.
MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE, “ODE TO MY FATHER” (2014 Rated NR
126MIN): MONDAY, JANUARY 18 – 7PM, AUDITORIUM: Ode To My
Father is the story of Deok-Su, a completely ordinary man, who in the face
of tumultuous events, marshals extraordinary courage to protect his family.
Sticking together, they survive some of modern history's most significant
events. As a child, Deok-Su had to say goodbye to his father during a North
Korean refugee evacuation amidst the Korean War. His last words to his
father were a promise that he would always protect the family. As he
matures, that vow leads him to the coalmines of 1960's Germany, and even
into the jungle of the Vietnam War.
L’HOMMAGE BISTRO FRANCAIS, WASHINGTON, DC: WEDNESDAY,

Returning to Collington by 2:45PM. This trip is being chartered. Anyone who

concept from restaurateur Hakan Ilhan, inspired by his weekend visits to
Paris while attending university in the United Kingdom. L’Hommage offers a
casual and approachable French dining experience. Executive Chef Josh
Laban Perkins works with local farms and food purveyors to bring the

freshest meats and produce to L’Homage for his take on classic French
dishes like steak frites and coq au vin. In addition to the main dining room
and lounge area, the bistro features a bakery, offering a full coffee menu,
grab-and-go snacks and dinner entrees, and made-to-order sandwiches.
Breads and pastries are prepared in-house daily. L’Hommage maintains a
wine list of more than 200 bottle options, six wines and more than a dozen
European beers on draft, as well as local beers and cocktails.
2000 DISTRICT RESIDENTS KITCHEN TOUR: WEDNESDAY, JANUARY
20 – 2PM; Chef Christian Ramsey would like residents to meet in the self
service area of the Dining Room and wear comfortable clothes and shoes
that will not slip on the damp floor while we take a tour of the kitchen.
NATIONAL ACTIVITIES PROFESSIONALS WEEK: WEDNESSDAY,
JANUARY 20- 3PM; There will be a signature showcase in honor of
National Activity Professional Week on the 19th at 2PM & on the 20th at
3PM in the Great Room.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE: THURSDAY, JANUARY 2110AM, Board Room; Our program helped six needy families at Christmas
by donating toys, games, hats and scarves! These were made possible by
the contributions of our many residents and we thank you for your generous
contributions.
UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISTS SERVICE: THURSDAY, JANUARY 2111AM, CHAPEL; Unitarian Universalists will welcome Karen Lee Scrivo to
our Service on Thursday, January 21 in the Chapel. Karen is the ministerial
intern for the Unitarian Universalist Legislative Ministry of Maryland. Her
sermon is entitled "Soul Care for Social Justice Makers," and she invites
you to recommit yourself to the work of creating a just, fair, and
compassionate world for all. We will also talk about topics being supported
by the UULM of Maryland in the upcoming legislative session while we have
lunch together after the Service.

NEW HOSPITAL IN PG COUNTY PRESENTATION: THURSDAY,
JANUARY 21 - 2:30PM, AUDITORIUM; The Health Services Committee
is sponsoring Lisa Jackson Esq. Manager of the Intergovernmental
Relations Division in the office of the County Executive. She will give us an
update on the proposed new hospital to be located right down the road in
Largo.
NATIONAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA @ KENNEDY CENTER:
THURSDAY, JANUARY 21; Departing Collington at 5:15PM. Returning to
Collington at approx. 9:40PM. Cellist Daniel Müller-Schott plays Dvorák's
Cello Concerto on a program that also includes Brahms's Piano Quartet,
orchestrated by Schoenberg, and the first NSO performances of Christopher
Rouse's Phaethon.
INTERFAITH CHAPEL MEETING: FRIDAY, JANUARY 22 – 10AM,
CHAPEL; We will meet & greet and planning for the New Year.
MS. LEE AND MR. PARK (SEAMSTRESS): FRIDAY, JANUARY 22 –
1:30PM, BLUE ROOM; The Seamstress and the Dry Cleaning will now be
taken care of on Friday’s at 1:30-2:30PM. Upon your visit, please come
prepare to pre-pay for your dry cleaning and other services. Forms of
acceptable payment include: cash, checks and the following credit cards:
Discover, Visa, and Master Card. Your dry cleaning will be available for pick
up in the Blue Room the following Wednesday. Please be mindful of the
seamstress’ one-hour time frame, and please remember to pick up your dry
cleaning the following week.

CANDLELIGHT CONCERT; THE BELLINI ENSEMBLE: SUNDAY,
JANUARY 24 – 3PM, AUDITORIUM; The Bellini Ensemble, Kathy Birch,
cellist and director. Violinist Laura Knutson and cellist Kathy Birch of the
Bellini Ensemble are returning to Collington this year, accompanied by
pianist, Dr. Carol Wolf-Ralph, to perform piano trios spanning three
centuries. Their program will feature the great Violin Sonata in D major,
HWV371, one of Handel’s best-known works composed in 1750; Czech
composer Bedrich Smetana’s Piano Trio in g minor, op.15, composed in
1850; and the third set of Frank Bridge’s Miniatures written by the British
composer in 1909. These talented musicians have collaborated on recitals
in years past and are looking forward to bringing you this delightful program.

BOOK DISCUSSION CLUB ALERT: JANUARY 27 – 4PM, BOARD
ROOM: For the regular 4th Wednesday of the month meeting, the book
genre will be primarily history or fictional history of war. There are several
suggested ways to select a book, but not limited to – A biography/memoir
of a general officer or NCO, a President, National leader of Country X,
civilian, a reporter covering war (or several wars), a war itself, a Secretary of
Defense or State, or only a specific battle. The individual 10-to-15-minute
presentations will be made, and if not all books are covered, will continue at

There will be NO February Trip Committee meeting as March trips have
already been decided at the January meeting. Our next meeting will be

SAGE RESISTRATION IS OPEN: Registration for the Spring 2016
semester begins today. There is a registration form attached to this Courier.
Registration is $75. For residents utilizing the attached registration form,
please make your check out to Prince George’s Community College (or
PGCC) and mail your check and completed SAGE registration form to the
address listed on the registration form. Computer-savvy residents can
register online via the Owl Link at www.pgcc.edu. For instructions on how to
register online, please see page 4 of the Spring 2016 SAGE catalog.

Residents are encouraged to learn to register online. If you do so, you know

THERAPEUTIC AQUATIC EXERCISE: 2016 SPRING SEMESTER:
Attention all Collington residents who plan to register for the upcoming 2016
Spring Therapeutic Aquatic Exercise class. In an effort to keep this class at
a comfortable size and to avoid safety hazards, a 20-person cap has been
placed on this class. Being that this class is open to the public, all interested

those who do not make it in the class, there is a free Aqua Fitness class
here at Collington on Wednesdays, 10AM taught by our very own Fitness
