An exciting opportunity exists for a Graduate Engineer who has recently graduated as a Civil Engineer from
University. This three year placement would expose the successful candidate to a variety of engineering
areas in the Programs and Technical Support section (PATS), including Water, Waste Water, Waste and the
Development team of PATS.
Under the guidance and supervision of the various areas Senior Engineers, the role is to assist the Senior
Engineers, Project Managers and the Project Engineers with the delivery of specific projects assigned as well
as the provision of engineering designs and technical advice on planning, design and delivery of water,
wastewater and waste projects.
The Programs and Technical Support section plans, designs and delivers capital projects, and provides
technical advice to Townsville Water and Waste operations, related to water, wastewater and waste
infrastructure, and other areas of council.

ESSENTIAL







Professional qualification (Degree) in Civil or Environmental Engineering or acceptable equivalent and
eligibility to apply for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
Developing technical skills in the design of water, wastewater and waste infrastructure.
Well-developed time management and prioritising skills, and ability to work under general direction.
Good written communication skills in English as characterised by the application of specialist
knowledge to the production of professional reports and external correspondence.
Intermediate skills and experience in computer analysis and software, particularly with the Microsoft
Office suite of applications such as Word, Excel, Project, and Outlook.
Basic to good knowledge and understanding of current statutory requirements and engineering
standards and principles of water, waste and wastewater infrastructure.
Good Technical Problem solving abilities.

DESIRABLE
Previous experience in relevant computer design procedures and computer analysis of water and
sewerage reticulation systems.
Previous work experience in engineering design office environment (either in a government or private
industry), and or experience in Civil Construction.



ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT >>
The Graduate Engineer will assist the Senior Engineer and the Engineers in the delivery of individual projects
forming part of a program of works. The member will operate within a small technical team, under general
direction, that supports the operational sides of the Townsville Water and Waste businesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES >>
MAIN DUTIES













Assist the Senior Engineer and the Engineers in the delivery of individual projects forming part of a
program of works
Assist the Senior Engineer and the Engineers with managing work such as designs and investigations
done by external Consultants.
Assist the Senior Engineer and the Engineers in the delivery of the program of works.
Preparation of requests for tender, job specifications, tender advertisements and other
correspondence as required
Preparation of tender evaluation reports and contract documents for projects
Provision of technical advice and support regarding design issues and operational matters
Work within the department in the following manner:

undertaking Design, Contract administration etc. functions of the position.
Basic to intermediate project management skills delivering moderate complex projects using

communications, procurement and integration.
Good Technical Problem solving abilities.
Customer Service skills commensurate with this classification level.
QUALIFICATIONS



Current Queensland “C” class driver’s licence.
Bachelor of Civil Engineering or acceptable equivalent
Eligible for membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
