Assistant Professor Sociology or Anthropology and Southern Studies

(www.olemiss.edu/depts/south/) invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociology
or Anthropology with a joint appointment in Southern Studies starting Fall 2016. We seek an anthropologist or
sociologist of proven teaching and research ability in the areas of race and ethnicity whose work has relevance
for understanding the experiences of African Americans in the contemporary U.S. South, and possibly
connections to the broader African diaspora. Both the Sociology and Anthropology programs and the Southern
Studies program offer B.A. and M.A. degrees. While tenure and promotion reside in Sociology and
Anthropology, teaching and service responsibilities will be divided between The Center for the Study of
Southern Culture and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Candidates will teach introductory, upper
division, and graduate courses in their disciplines and in Southern Studies. Ph.D. (or advanced ABD status) is
required at the time of application. Candidates should have an active program of scholarly research involving
fieldwork or other qualitative methods; an interdisciplinary perspective; and a strong commitment to excellence
