Presentation Carlo Moretti is an “artist’s factory” – one of the few left in Murano. For over 50 years it has created objects in Murano Glass, blending innovation and continual research. Unique pieces, made in limited editions, and signed one by one, have never ceased to communicate new emotions, and for this reason they have entered the collections of the most important museums around the world, from the United States to Great Britain, from France to Germany, from Finland to Czech Republic, from Israel to Switzerland and Belgium, etc. Carlo Moretti’s history is made of design, taste and elegance, based on essentiality. From the very beginning, the company built a long-lasting relationship of loyalty and anticipation with clients and aficionados, which soon turned into refined collecting. A production that, starting from the beginning of the 70s, firm took a distance from the historic practice of working glass, confronting itself with a much broader horizon in which the expressive value of form is newly acknowledged. Gathering the appreciation and recognition of the world of art and design, Carlo Moretti’s creations guarantee a name that has become established on the international market and offers a quality that lasts over time. This quality is the result of the technical expertise of glassmakers, deeply rooted on the Island of Murano, but also of family tradition, rigorous and professional in the choice of materials and the complete cycle of production. The sources of inspiration are countless, from the colours of the lagoon to the recognition of some ‘magical’ moments in the daily life. Thus a continuous quest for new shapes, clean and essential, and the research in technical innovation, with an experimental approach both, in the use of components and in the contrivance of the most appropriate working tools. The firm’s distinctive traits. New creations thus come to life, tangible proofs of the magical duality inherent to the substance used, which harbours two contradictory souls, a solid and a liquid one. Creations that often require the simultaneous work of 11 people, under the guidance of the master glassmaker. It starts with a drawing, born from the coloured pencils of Carlo and Giovanni Moretti, and then the idea takes shape through the encounter with the wisdom and skill of the master, adapting to the needs of the material, always variable and unpredictable. Each piece, created in Murano Crystal glass, mouth-blown into a wooden form of wild pear, more like a sculpture than a mold, finished off by hand “in the air”, is then completed with hot applications of coloured sticks, drops, castings and other elements that make it unique and recognizable. Produced in limited, numbered and then signed one by one with a cutting edge, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity which guarantees the value of the object and increases the collecting of product of art. Timeless inventions that reflect the contemporary taste even if they becomes, from the very beginning, "classics", between design and artistic creations. An example of these is the Monolite, an artwork created in 1996 on the occasion of Carlo Moretti’s participation in the exhibition "Aperto Vetro" that was held in Venice (Palazzo Ducale) in that year. Consisting of 42 blocks in different colors of Murano Crystal, first squared and ground separately, then blended together in one piece, the Monolite takes the final form through a treatment of sandstone grinding wheel. The Monolite and other pieces from the collection of Carlo Moretti has been exhibited recently: • Milan, the exhibition " Artisti e designer del vetro 1960-2010. La collezione Bellini-Pezzoli (Artists and designers of glass 19602010. The Bellini-Pezzoli collection"), November 18th, 2010 January 30th, 2011, at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum. • Stockholm, the exhibition "Venetian contemporary glass, from the Biennale to the artist's studio.
