Built on an abandoned railroad that was originally called the Michigan Air-Line Railway, the trail connects the communities of Shelby Township, Romeo, Armada and Richmond in Macomb County. The southern end of the trail connects with the Clinton River Trail at Dequindre Road. Just north of Romeo, a beautiful new bridge over highway US-53 marks a transition point where the trail heads east to Armada through a mostly wooded landscape. A bridge over the Clinton River is an exceptionally scenic spot to stop and take in the views. From Armada to Richmond, the trail passes through woodlands, pastures and fields of corn and beans. A sweeping archway welcomes you to the eastern trailhead and downtown Richmond where you will find a bike shop and plenty of restaurants and stores. Stony Creek Metropark Hike-Bike Trail If you would like to add a few more scenic miles to your travel plans, consider a side trip on the Stony Creek Metropark Hike-Bike Trail. This nicely maintained asphalt trail takes you on a circular loop around Stony Creek Lake with access to several nature trails and mountain biking trails along the way. The park also offers bike rentals. To connect to the Hike-Bike Trail, head north on the west sidewalk on Shelby Road where the trail crosses the intersection of 25 Mile and Shelby roads.
