Truck Center Update
Spring has had a hard time developing this year but that hasn’t
stopped the development process at Caterpillar. As we move
into the spring/summer transition changes are on the horizon
with the CT660 truck program. Production at the Garland,
Texas plant has halted and has been fully transitioned to the
much newer and more efficient Escobedo, Mexico plant. This
plant is the recipient of several global awards for high quality as well as exemplary environmental sustainability. We are
excited that our chassis will be assembled at this facility and
look forward to significantly improved product quality.
We have had the fortunate opportunity to recently put a new
CT660 roll-off unit in service with Cockey’s Enterprises, one
of Maryland’s premier privately owned refuse haulers. Cockey’s
has a fleet of approximately 65 Mack trucks and was excited
to give the CT a try. Please join me in welcoming Cockey’s to
the Alban Cat family.
SEH Excavating, a predominantly Mack customer recently
approached us with a plea for help with their fuel/lube truck
which needed a major engine repair and they were not satisfied
with the response from their supporting dealer. Without the
fuel/ lube truck SEH job schedules were in jeopardy and they
needed help. With one phone call Orville Lawrence and his
team committed that they could handle the repair in a timely
and professional manner and did so beyond the customer’s
expectations! I feel confident that they have both won a friend
as well as future “plus” business. Thanks to all at Elkridge that
made this possible.
Trailers sales have gotten off to a good start with several
12,000 lbs. tag trailers being sold from stock by Ed Helmstetter, George Brac, and Brian Austin. In addition to the tag trail-
ers, Ed Lewis’ live bottom
trailers for C.J. Miller LLC
have been placed into service hauling various materials ranging from stock for
the plant to asphalt. These
trailers will provide a level
of versatility to Miller’s fleet that has never been attained
before….the same trailer delivering asphalt, hauling sevens,
and moving millings! Not only are they efficient they are eye
catching rolling billboards for the C.J. Miller LLC! In the
Towmaster line Ed Helmstetter was able to secure an order for
a 50,000 lbs. “drop deck” trailer from Gaines and Company
which we expect to see on the road by mid-June. We have a
ready supply of detachable gooseneck lowboy trailers in stock
and on order to service our heavy haulers needs in a lightweight efficient 51 ton configuration…please keep your eyes
open for opportunities for these.
Caterpillar is looking ahead and forging plans to add diversity
to our model mix in the next 18 months or so. Engine changes
are once again on the horizon with new EPA regulations coming our way in 2014 and further announcements regarding the
15 liter engine market are
expected soon. Cat is moving forward in both product quality and range of
products offered. Please be
always vigilant for opportunities for our products.

USO Donations
A big thank you goes out to all the branches and our customers for donating food and supplies to the USO. We collected
a total of 4,690 pieces!! Some of the items collected include
assorted chips, assorted crackers, assorted cookies, granola
bars, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, hand sanitizer,
baby wipes, and much more. We definitely exceeded expectations for this collection drive! Thank you for your support of
our troops and their families. Special thanks goes to Connie
Anderson (Pulaski) for counting all of the donations for us!
Hopefully we can continue to exceed expectations next year.

CAT Auction
On April 24th, CAT Auction Services held an auction at our
Winchester facility. John Alexander stated, “The CAT Auction was very nicely done. The set up was nice and everything
went pretty well. It was a very good day for our customers and
cosigners. Our cosigners were pleased by the outcome of the
auction. Our Winchester shop picked up residual business from
the auction. People who had never attended a CAT auction
before were very impressed. As far as the markets go, backhoe
markets are up and wheel loaders markets are up somewhat.
The track loader markets are improving. Dozers are holding
their own. However, the scraper markets are still low nation-

wide and roller markets went down slightly.” As the host
dealer, Alban also had a vendor table set up at the auction for
the purpose of promoting finance and product support. A big
thank you to everyone who made this event a great success! A
special thanks to Mike Williams, Chuck Carpenter, and the
rest of Winchester for their outstanding hard work and great
hospitality. We are looking forward to more opportunities to
host another CAT auction in our territory.

Unbelievable…April is gone and May

BUILDER MART
Builder Mart was an overwhelming success this year. I

truly was a team effort between

departments to attract
Jim Price, Allen Shock, Scott Armiger
(HBAM President), Vito Mosca,
current and potential customRyan Williams, and Brian Austin

our story. Several current customers stopped by for autographs
with Rick Dempsey: Gray and Son, MT Laney, ABC Equipment Rental and Shelter Systems. Hawkeye Construction
and Bob Gaines Construction stopped by to discuss their Skid
Steer Loader needs. Jamie made a special trip to Timonium
Fairgrounds to support our effort. Thank you…

TREE PLANTING AT THE WHITE HOUSE
Larry Crawford, Rental Coordinator, rented a 966 K equipped
with forks to help move and
plant a tree on the White
House grounds. As you can
imagine, just getting the 966K
to the white House and maneuvering to unload and load was
quite a task. However, Paul Matschulat, Rental Transportation
(Upper Marlboro) was up to the challenge and rental went off
without a hitch. Paul had to remain at the job site for 6 hours
while the contractor moved a planted the tree. Great job.
JUNE - JULY 2013
ALBAN RENTS HOST THE
SOUTH EASTERN CAT RENTAL
CONFERENCE
Cat Rental Companies held
their annual rental conference
for two days at our Citation parts
facility. Special thanks to Jim Bilski, Parts Manager, who graciously allowed me to use the Parts department training room
to discuss current rental issues and exchange ideas on how to
improve our Cat Rental business. The dealers who attended
the conference were; Blanchard Cat (South Carolina), Carolina Cat (North Carolina), Gregory Poole (North Carolina),
Carter Cat (Virginia) and Alban Cat. This was the first time
Alban Cat has hosted the Rental Conference. It certainly was
my honor to show everyone our company and the Baltimore
facilities. I would like to thank Caterpillar for making possible
for everyone to see Camden yards and watch an Orioles game.
ALBAN CCE/BCP/RENTS GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY
Alban Cat RENTS, Upper
Marlboro, assisted The Sisters
of Religious Mercy, Clinton Maryland, with their spring cleanup
project with a Cat 259B3 Compact Track Loader. As you can
see the Nuns and puppy were
very appreciative by posing
for a photo in front of their beautiful convent. Thank you,
Chris Redding and Larry Crawford for arranging the rental and
delivery of the 259B3 for the project.
Ed Hullett, Club Car Sales
Representative, volunteered to
give back to the community by
manning a booth at Career Day,
Edgewood Middle School in Harford
County, Maryland. Over a four
hour period Ed saw over 100,
8th grade students, explaining to them what services and
products Alban Cat supplies.
Surprisingly many of the students told Ed their parents worked
construction and were aware of our Abingdon facility.
DULLES SUPER SALE
Exciting news for the next issue of the Alban Times, the second annual Dulles Super Sale was held at the Dulles facility
on Tuesday, May 21st between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., more

Touch-A-Truck
Sandy Childs worked the crowd at the St. Francis de Sales
Preschool 2nd Annual Touch-A-Truck event. The event
was held on April 13th in Abingdon. Touch-A-Truck is a
fun, family event to be enjoyed by children of all ages. The
children in the St. Francis Pre-K program were very excited
about the event and could not wait to see and talk to their
hometown heroes who own and operate their favorite construction trucks (CAT of course!), fire engines, police cars,
etc. This event helped bring the community together for a
day of fun that will be long remembered. Sandy Childs was
able to show off one of his trucks to the children and their
families who participated in the event. The Touch-A-Truck
event is a great way to give back to our Alban CAT community and give the children of St. Francis a day of fun and
learning about all the things that we do! A big thank you
goes out to Sandy Childs and his team for donating their time
and equipment, helping make the event possible!

Wheely Fun Day
Alban Tractor supplied a 938H Wheel Loader to participate in Wheely Fun
Day. Wheely Fun Day is organized by Matt Ritter of Semi Express a neighboring business of Annapolis Junction. It benefits the children of the Nursery
School of Bethany United Methodist Church in Ellicott City Maryland by
demonstrating a variety of wheeled trucks and equipment and the services
they do.
Thanks to all at Alban for making this day happen. Tom Linton approved the
donation, John Alexander supplied the 938H, Mary Ellen Williams and Dana
Deese coordinated transportation, and Todd Carbaugh delivered the loader.
Special thanks from Matt Ritter “You guys really helped make this day special
for a lot of people and we truly appreciate all you did for us!” Matt donates to
Alban Food Drives and appreciates civic duty.
Here is a link to check out the event. (You may have to open a Shutterfly
account which is easy – and you won’t get spam sent to you)

This is Maggie May! Maggie is a rescue who almost
lost her life as a young kitten. Maggie was found in an
abandoned boat twisted in fishing line which was cutting
into her body. She was saved just in time, we were told
she would not have lasted another day. Due to the extent
of her injuries we didn’t know if she was going to make
it. Maggie was a fighter and once she made it to day
three, we knew this kitty was going to survive. She spent
2 weeks at the vets healing and getting treatment for her
wound. We tried to adopt her out, however as each day
passedour family became more attached to this little girl.
Today Maggie is three years old and loving life! —Myia

Sharks Invade Caterpillar Visitors Center During OCEARCH Week
The Caterpillar Visitors Center welcomed OCEARCH
Founder and Expedition Leader Chris Fischer and M/V
OCEARCH Captain Brett McBride for a week of programming to talk to Caterpillar employees, dealers, customers and
local school children about the OCEARCH project and their
upcoming expeditions scheduled for Cape Cod, Brazil and the
Galapagos Islands.
About 450 Caterpillar employees and their family members
attended a Meet-and-Greet with Fischer and McBride, where
they received autographed sharks, key chains and photos,
learned about the mission of OCEARCH and enjoyed special
videos and exhibits, including the Global Shark Tracker
technology. Dealer and customer groups had the same opportunity.
Throughout the week, the Visitors Center welcomed 160
children from Peoria, Ill., and surrounding areas for a special
presentation with Fischer and McBride. Students learned how
great white sharks are tagged and the importance of studying
migration and breeding patterns, as well as the impact sharks
have on the ocean’s ecosystem.
Fischer also discussed the launch of a school curriculum
available later this summer. The curriculum will be available
for free from a centralized digital hub that integrates social
media, videos, photographs and the Global Shark Tracker.
JUNE - JULY 2013
“We want to share information with the world’s children.
We’re thrilled to announce 20 lesson plans to be launched in
August,” said Fischer, suggesting that lessons involving the
great white shark, “the world’s most charismatic creature, will
make subjects like math and science fun again.”
In February, Caterpillar announced its multi-year partnership
with OCEARCH, which performs global research of shark
breeding, feeding, migration and birthing patterns. The vessel
used, the M/V OCEARCH, relies heavily on Cat® power in
the water. The boat, with its team of scientists and crew, runs
on two Cat engines and has three Cat generators on board
that power an at-sea laboratory, custom-built hydraulic lift
and 55,000-pound capacity research platform with the capability of handling 5,000-pound sharks.
