This page is designed to help students understand some important aspects of the Basic Skills 007CE
mathematics course that has replaced Math 105 as the LACC Math Department’s first level basic math
course in fall semester 2010. Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions. For
additional information, go to the “Instructors web site” (click on “Math 105 replaced” under “news”
located in the bottom left corner of the LACC main web page)
THE LACC PLACEMENT EXAM PUT ME IN MATH 105. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
You must take the first level basic math course: Basic Skills 007CE
By successfully completing Basic Skills 007CE, you will satisfy the prerequisite for enrollment in PreAlgebra, Math 112.
HOW DO I FIND THE LIST OF AVAILABLE FALL 2010 SECTIONS OF Basic Skills 007CE
(Replacement course for MATH 105)?
Click “CLASS SCHEDULE” button on main page of LACC web site. Then click “open classes” in the
“Fall 2010” box. Classes are listed as “BSICSKL 007CE” sections.
HOW DO I ENROLL IN A SECTION OF Basic Skills 007CE?
Click “FOR STUDENTS” on main page of LACC web site. On the next page under “New Students”,
click “How to Apply and Register”. Then follow the directions.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS MUST I HAVE?
You must have a readily accessible email account. (one is automatically provided by LACC when you
enroll in any class). For detail on how to access and use your account, click “FOR STUDENTS” on
main page of LACC web site. In the right hand list of links on the next page, click “Email (student)”.
You must have access to a computer outside the classroom that is connected to the internet so you can
do homework and access course information. (computers located in the Math Open Lab, FH 106 and in
the Campus Library will satisfy this need).
WHAT ABOUT TUITION, GRADES, FINANCIAL AID AND QUALIFYING FOR
ENROLLMENT IN PRE-ALGEBRA (MATH 112)?
Basic Skills 007CE is a non credit course. No record of the course will appear on your College
transcripts. There is no tuition charge for the course and it does not qualify for financial aid. Upon
successful completion of the course you are qualified to enroll in Pre-Algebra (Math 112).
HOW DOES THE COURSE WORK?
You will attend two standard hours of class per week (36 hours total) using a computer based learning
program on the computers in FH119 learning lab. At all times, a Math tutor will be present in the lab to
assist if you need help understanding a Math concept or performing analysis or computation of a Math
problem. Additionally, at all times, a computer technician will be present in the lab to assist you with
using the equipment or computer programs. The instructor will coordinate the course through the
instructor web site and email.
WHAT IF I CAN’T USE A COMPUTER?
A limited number of Basic Skills 007CE traditional lecture style sections are available to
accommodate students unable to use computers for learning.
