2015 JOSEPH E. DINEEN AWARD
ROBERT & DIANE SANDBOOTHE
Joseph E. Dineen Award- Every year since 2005, the Village of Maybrook
Board of Trustees has selected a resident in the village who goes above and
beyond as a volunteer. This year, the village board went outside the village
to honor not just one but two individuals who have gone above and beyond
as volunteers in the Village of Maybrook. Maybrook has a long time history
for being recognized as the “Hub to the Northeast” because of its
association with the Maybrook Railroad Switching Terminal for so many
years. In fact, many residents who lived in Maybrook worked for the
Maybrook Railroad Yard before it was closed during the 1970’s. Today,
there are still many residents who have ties with the Maybrook Railroad
through parents, grandparents, great grandparents and have many fond
memories of Maybrook past. In 2011, the new Maybrook Government
Center was built here in the Frederick Myers Veterans Memorial Park which
at one time housed the former YMCA that served the workers in the
Maybrook Railroad. The Maybrook Railroad Museum was moved from the
Maybrook Reading Room to the new Maybrook Government Center for
easier access for those who wished to visit and learn about the Maybrook
Railroad history. This year’s Joseph E. Dineen Award recipients had a lot to
do with setting up the new Maybrook Railroad Museum location and it was
not an easy task. The Village of Maybrook Board of Trustees understands
the importance of preserving the history of Maybrook and passing it on to
future generations. We very much appreciate the time and effort this year’s
Joseph E. Dineen Award recipients have volunteered over the years in
keeping the Maybrook Railroad Museum a part of our village for which I am
truly greatful. It is my honor to announce and present the first co-recipients
of the Joseph E. Dineen Award for 2015 to Robert and Diane Sandboothe.
Congratulations!
Diane thanked the Board and Tina for all they do to help them to keep the
museum running.
VILLAGE OF MAYBROOK BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING- DECEMBER 7, 2015
Mayor then presented Robert & Diane with a check for $300 to the Railroad
Museum from the proceeds of the Danny Saracino DVDs on the history of
the Village. Diane said many thanks!
EAGLE SCOUT JAKE GLEASON
Jake Gleason, Eagle Scout Project-This past September, I received a phone
call from a young man from the Village of Walden Boy Scout Troop 31 who
wanted to do his Eagle Scout Project in the Village of Maybrook. Many
residents know how important our scouting program is here in Maybrook
and the many wonderful Eagle Scout Projects they do to enhance our
village. Words can’t express enough gratitude the Village Board and I have
for their contributions to our village. This was the first time I had been
contacted by an Eagle Scout Candidate outside our village and we express
the same gratitude to him for doing his project in the Village of Maybrook. I
explained to this young man that our caboose on the north end of the
village was in desperate need of a new coat of paint because it is in direct
sunlight every day of the year. He eagerly accepted the task and did an
outstanding job! The Village of Maybrook Board of Trustees presents Eagle
Scouts in the Village of Maybrook with a special Certificate of Appreciation
Award at their Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremonies. Although this young
man has not had his Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony, I felt it was best
if we, the Village Board of Trustees honored him this evening for choosing
the Village of Maybrook for his Eagle Scout Project and his achievement.
This evening, the Village of Maybrook Board of Trustees would like to
congratulate and thank Jake Gleason for completing his Eagle Scout Project
and for choosing the Village of Maybrook for his project. Congratulations
Jake!
KATHLEEN FLORIO
Kathleen Florio, Shoprite- When I first became Mayor of the Village of
Maybrook eight years ago, I received a phone call from Shoprite Manager Bob
Gillick. Bob and I met in my office and he explained to me how he wanted
Shoprite to be a part of the Village of Maybrook. Although Bob Gillick has since
moved on to other Shoprite locations, we still stay in touch and text each
other during the holidays. There have been many representative changes since
VILLAGE OF MAYBROOK BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING- DECEMBER 7, 2015
Bob Gillick’s departure and the relationship between Shoprite and Maybrook
remains the same as it did eight years ago. We are grateful for Shoprite’s
assistance and participation in our Maybrook holiday events. This past year, I
had the pleasure of working with Shoprite Advocate Kathleen Florio. Kathleen
is always available to assist our village and sometimes contacts me before I call
her. Tonight we would like to present Kathleen with an Appreciation Award
from the Village of Maybrook for all she has done this past year and we look
forward to working with her again in 2016. Thank you Kathleen!
RACHEL COLEMAN
Rachel Coleman, Wallkill Valley Times- I’ve had the pleasure of knowing
this next young lady for the past several years. She attends our village
board meetings and is a reporter for the Wallkill Valley Times. This is a parttime job for her and she takes her job very seriously by reporting the latest
news from the Village of Maybrook with both honesty and integrity. Her
coverage of the Village of Maybrook are direct, informative and honest

Last Village Board Meeting of 2015- Another year has passed and 2016 will
be soon upon us. These will be my last words of my report for 2015 and I
want to make sure end it appropriately. This has been a long and very
productive year. A bulk of the infrastructure repair is behind us now where
all we need to do is maintain and improve going forward. We can now
focus on economic development and revitalization in our village which is
going to be our goal for 2016. I want to take a moment to thank the Village
Board, Maybrook Clerk-Treasurer Tina Johnson, DPW Supervisor Matt
Thorp, Maybrook Police Chief Butch Amthor, ALL of the employees of the
Village of Maybrook, our attorneys (Rick and Kelly), engineer (Jim) and
