A Service of Death and Resurrection Celebrating the Life of Kenneth Julius Jackson January 12, 1951 – March 10, 2014 March 22, 2014 11:00 am St. Matthew’s United Methodist Church A Service of Death and Resurrection – Celebrating the Life of Kenneth Julius Jackson January 12, 1951 – March 10, 2014 March 22, 2014 11:00 am PRELUDE Selected Hymns WORDS OF GRACE AND GREETING *HYMN OF PRAISE For All the Saints For all the saints, who from their labors rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia, Alleluia! Thou wast their rock, their fortress, and their might; thou, Lord, their captain in the well-fought fight; thou, in the darkness drear, their one true light. Alleluia, Alleluia! O blest communion, fellowship divine! We feebly struggle, they in glory shine; yet all are one in thee, for all are thine. Alleluia, Alleluia! And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long, steals on the ear the distant triumph song, and hearts are brave again, and arms are strong. Alleluia, Alleluia! Refrain: Because he lives, I can face tomorrow; Because he lives, all fear is gone; Because I know he holds the future, And life is worth the living Just because he lives. How sweet to hold a newborn baby, And feel the pride and joy he gives; But greater still the calm assurance, This child can face uncertain days because he lives. Refrain And then one day I’ll cross the river, I’ll fight life’s final war with pain; And then as death gives way to victory, I’ll see the lights of glory and I’ll know he reigns. We have failed to be an obedient church. We have not done your will, we have broken your law, we have rebelled against your love, we have not loved our neighbors, and we have not heard the cry of the needy. Forgive us, we pray. Free us for joyful obedience, Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. All who dwell in dark and sin My hand will save. Rev. Larry Davies I who make the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my words to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. I, the Lord of wind and flame I will tend the poor and lame, I will set a feast for them. My hand will save. Finest bread I will provide Till their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send? Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart. *BENEDICTION The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. And All God’s Children Said . . . AMEN!
