SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULUM
The development of the Senior High School Curriculum of Holy Family School of Quezon City,
Inc. (HFQCI) is borne out of the school administrators’ intent to meet the K to 12 Vision as specified in
the K to 12 Briefer on the Enhanced K to 12 Basic Education Program.
Every graduate of the Enhanced K to 12 Basic Education Program is an empowered
individual who has learned through a program that is rooted on sound educational principles
and geared towards excellence, the foundations for learning throughout life, the competence
to engage in work and be productive, the ability to coexist in fruitful harmony with local and
global communities, the capability to engage in autonomous critical thinking, and the capacity
to transform others and one’s self.
HFSQCI SHS Curriculum offers Academic Track with the three strands: (1) Accounting, Business
and Management (ABM) and (2) Science, Technology, Mathematics and Engineering (STEM) and (3)
Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMMS). Each of the strands intends to enrich the prescribed SHS
Program from the K to 12 Curriculum with Religious Education subjects – a requisite learning area of
Catholic Institutions. The development of HFSQCI SHS Curriculum has involved benchmarking with
schools known for their excellence in the standards set by PAASCU; attendance in summits, fora, and
conferences initiated by DepEd, CHED, and FAPE and consultation with education experts. The
Academic leaders and guidance counselors also worked in collaboration in the engaging the students to
carefully plan their track and strand, particularly when they are unsure of their future profession or
educational plans. The students were given a broad selection of courses as possible with a challenge level
that is consistent with their abilities.

This course introduces some Applied Social Sciences, namely, Counseling, Social Work,
and Communication, which draw their foundation from the theories and principles of Psychology,
Sociology, Anthropology, and other Social Sciences. The course highlights the seamless
interconnectivity of the different applied social science disciplines while focusing on the processes
and applications of these applied disciplines in critical development areas.
Community Engagement, Solidarity, and Citizenship (CSC)
This course focuses on the application of ideas and methods of the social sciences to
understand, investigate and examine challenges of contemporary community life. It focuses on
community-action initiatives such as community engagement, solidarity, and citizenship guided by the
core values of human rights, social justice, empowerment and advocacy, gender equality, and
participatory development. It aims at enhancing students’ sense of shared identity and willingness to
contribute to the pursuit of the common good of the community. It enables students to integrate
applied social sciences into community-action initiatives.
Simulation / Work Immersion Program
This course is designed to provide students the opportunity to integrate their learning in the
different areas of the humanities and social sciences through a creative culminating activity. It focuses
on the exhibitions/exhibits of authentic products and performances as evidence of their learning in the
humanities and social sciences.

SPECIALIZED SUBJECTS IN STEM STRAND
Pre-Calculus
In this course, the students will be able to apply concepts and solve problems involving conic sections,
systems of nonlinear equations, series and mathematical induction, circular and trigonometric functions,
trigonometric identities, and polar coordinate system. These concepts are necessary to understand the key
concepts in calculus
Calculus
This course is designed to enable students to know how to determine the limit of a function, differentiate,
and integrate algebraic, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions in one variable, and to
formulate and solve problems involving continuity, extreme values, related rates, population models, and
areas of plane regions.
Biology 1 and 2
This subject is designed to enhance the understanding of the principles and concepts in the study of
biology, particularly life processes at the cellular and molecular levels. It also covers the transformation of
energy in organisms. In Biology 2, it is designed to enhance the understanding of the principles and
concepts in the study of biology, particularly heredity and variation, and the diversity of living organisms,
their structure, function, and evolution.
General Chemistry 1 and 2
The course is designed to enhance understanding in the composition, structure, and properties of matter;
quantitative principles, kinetics, and energetics of transformations of matter; and fundamental concepts of
organic chemistry. This further strengthens the competencies gained from Grades 1 – 10 about matter.
Learning is enhanced by laboratory simulations and experiments.
Physics 1 and 2
This course is design to enhance understanding of physics in the microscopic world. It focuses on the key
concepts in relativity and quantum physics. It further explores the different properties and phenomena that
is happening in elementary and fundamental particles; matter-waves, atomic structure and cosmology in a
physics context. This also deals with the advancements in physics and technology on quantum energy and
probability.
