Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Sally CARGILL It is going to be vital over the next three years to preserve our community identity as this huge new city is formed. As your community co−ordinator for almost 20 years and community board member for 12 years, I ask for your support to help me continue with the work I have been doing in East Coast Bays since 1991. Many of you will have attended the hundreds of community events and activities I have organised and know what a great sense of community wellbeing these provide. A strong local board with experienced, passionate and committed people is going to be essential to ensure what we most value in ECB is maintained and continued. I work in Browns Bay, am accessible and have the networks to be able to bring people together to find creative solutions to problems, and I have the knowledge and the ability to get things done. Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Brian CASEY Shore Voice Brian, a Browns Bay resident for 11 years, made New Zealand his home after 35 years in South Africa. With extensive business experience in both the private and corporate sector he is an experienced negotiator getting things done on a win−win basis. Brian understands and is in tune with different cultures, and is determined to get long−term value for residents and ratepayers' hard−earned money. His priorities are to support local education, simplify the building consent process, and improve the quality of service from council. A big issue for Brian is the unfair pressure on retired and elderly residents to sell their family homes due to never−ending increases in rates and taxes. He also wants to see common sense and balance applied to environmental issues. "We need to focus on value for money, and support established priorities, not pet projects." www.shorevoice.org.nz Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Laurie CONDER Independent A North Shore resident for 40 years I have been active in my Banking career, as well as participating in community and sports activities. Including being a member of the Albany Community Board, Business Mentors NZ, and Enterprise North Shore to assist business owners grow their business and create employment. The new Albany Ward involves areas from Whenuapai to East Coast Bays which are now due for development. You need a qualified Resource Consent Commissioner, familiar with Regional and District Plans to safe guard your interests. The new CCO's and Auckland Council are as yet unproven and could distance essential services from ratepayers. You will need an independent person to represent you who will ensure the new Council considers the views of your Local Board, and makes good decisions with every consideration for the consequences. I can represent you full time, without any other employment or business distractions. Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members David COOPER Independent East Coast Bays Community Board chairman for the past three years, local resident for over 30 years, family man, and passionate about the Bays. I'm an experienced infrastructure engineer and offer knowledge, common sense and integrity to make sensible things happen, and challenge things that should not. The new 'super city' will need representatives of strong character without preset agendas to ensure: we do actually get some benefits; costs are controlled; and bureaucracy does not just 'take over.' Not obligated to any political or campaining groups, I'm a positive and decisive local person who works hard to make a difference where needed and stands up for the Bays. My track record is strong in working with people on worthy causes and I always strive to ensure that all communities are supported equally with improvements and enhancements. Fair, trustworthy, and sincere. Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Gary HOLMES Independent While in his 30's, Gary enthusiastically represented the people of East Coast Bays at both community board and council level. Now a recognised business leader with strong community links, Gary offers experience and know−how to the role of a local board member. Married with 3 children, Gary is General Manager of North Shore's largest business association. A 2010 recipient of a Winston Churchill Fellowship, Gary believes that supporting the Bays' villages and town centres is key to retaining our identity. Other vital issues are ensuring that the high standards we enjoy today are not lost in the new super city, protecting our special environment and continuing to plan for a third harbour crossing. Gary has established good relationships with the two leading Mayoral candidates and has the connections and experience to ensure that the voice of East Coast Bays residents is heard. Gary will make sure the Bays count. www.garyholmes.co.nz Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Toby HUTTON North Now I am a Field Engineer in the New Zealand Army Territorial Force and a volunteer at the Museum of Transport and Technology in Western Springs. In 2008 I helped stop a Commercial Airport at Whenuapai from destroying the way of life so many on the North Shore enjoy. I'm optimistic and positive for the new local government structure. It offers a great opportunity for residents and communities to prosper. I want to ensure the new local board spends ratepayers' money wisely. It is critical to ensure this area remains the prestigious and unique place that it is. We mustn't create unnecessary bureaucracy or bylaws. Traffic congestion must be reduced. We are seeing crime creep into the North Shore and this must be stopped. Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Bob JONES I am a third generation North Shore resident and have lived in the East Coast Bays for over 30 years. Currently living in beautiful Mairangi Bay I wish to see that the needs of the ratepayers in our electorate are not lost in the new amalgamation and that the ECB continues to be the best place to live. As an independent I pledge to: Welcome input and comment from ratepayers; Attend all required meetings; Endeavor to ensure that ratepayers receive best 'value' for all expenditure; Be forward thinking with an open mind to all matters; Actively debate any matter that does not seem to be in the best interests of the residents/ratepayers Employed by a large bank I have considerable business experience and have travelled extensively. No personal business interests that could influence my decision making. This is the time for a new look Council. Fresh faces, fresh ideas. Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Alan MCCULLOCH Independent Work life: Commerce Education Building Family: Shirley, 3 sons, 8 grandchildren Public Office: Mayor East Coast Bays 3 terms; Harbour Bridge Authority; Rangitoto College Board; Auckland Regional Authority etc. I will always remember whose money I am spending and look for ways of getting more done for less. I will work to rebuild the community spirit and the community pride which in time past was a huge feature of East Coast Bays. I look to getting Local Council services back in Browns Bay; the long planned head on Murrays Bay wharf. Our clubs, churches, sports groups need to build their memberships and gather in our now significant immigrant groups. Our shopping centres need style and grace so we use them as our first choice. How about a yearly Jazz festival and. . . Together we can. www.ruffntuff.co.nz Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Julia PARFITT Proudly Independent Lifelong Bays resident, current councillor, deputy mayor, and Justice of the Peace, Julia believes her first responsibility is to ensure local rates are spent in the local community, and that the local board secures the powers and resources to preserve and enhance our unique Bays lifestyle. Julia has a respected record of raising and resolving issues on behalf of residents, has served on many community groups and is always available to local people when they need help and advice. Married with two sons, and a part−time teacher at Northcross Intermediate, Julia is proudly local and proudly independent. We need to focus on the essentials; safe liveable communities, clean beaches, more parkland, quality local employment, an efficient roading network with frequent, affordable public transport and protecting our people from excessive 'super city' rates and water charges. If you believe in managing growth and change while preserving everything that's special, elect Julia. Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Dean REYNOLDS Shore Voice Dean's family has lived on the Shore since 1931. A Chartered Accountant, today he operates a grass− roots enterprise: a North Shore lawn−mowing and gardening franchise. He is also active in the Long Bay − Okura Great Park Society, and the Torbay Historical Society. Dean first became involved in local government in 1987 literally at grassroots level. As spokesman for the Toxins Action Group, he campaigned for councils to replace pesticides with hot water to control roadside weeds. North Shore made history in 1993 as the first city anywhere to adopt the hot−water method. Now it's used extensively around the world. Dean believes the most important role of a local board member under the new system will be to build a sense of empowerment. "It is important for people to become involved in their communities and to protect the things they value." www.shorevoice.org.nz Auckland Council East Coast Bays Subdivision of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Electing 4 Members Lisa WHYTE Shore Voice Lisa is currently a North Shore City councillor representing the Albany and East Coast Bays communities. She is a local resident with education and sporting links to the Bays. She understands how council decisions affect families, ratepayers and businesses − and as an accountant, she has the necessary financial and analytical skills to guide responsible decision−making. Lisa has a clear vision of community needs for families, including new migrants, and understands the challenges involved in providing adequate infrastructure alongside new development. As a parent, she recognises the value of our parks, sports facilities, libraries, clean beaches and safe streets. Growth and expansion should not be at the expense of our environment or quality of life for our families. Council must strive to operate in a transparent, inclusive and accountable manner.
