Position Description The Bays Hospital “Your Community Hospital” CLINICAL EDUCATOR Overall Job Purpose The role of the Clinical Educator is to provide support, training and where necessary supervision in the clinical areas and nonclinical areas as directed. Major Responsibilities To work closely with the Senior Management team in providing a working environment conducive to learning to ensure patient safety is maintained by provision of professional and competent clinical care. To work within and comply with the hospital’s policy and procedures across: Organisational Clinical Infection Control OH&S Emergency Response Environmental Services Catering Administrative To work within and comply with the Quality and Risk Management Manual. Clinical Instruction Display and utilise appropriate interpersonal skills and teaching methods to promote adult learning in the clinical areas and nonclinical areas as directed. Provide support, training and where necessary supervision for: - all clinical staff - new clinical staff - graduate nurses - undergraduate students - nonclinical staff as directed Orientate new staff to clinical areas. Provide in-service education sessions in the clinical areas according to identified needs of the staff. Assist in the review and development of clinical policies and procedures. Act as a role model to exemplify customer service focus and quality performance. Educate and facilitate staff in understanding and delivering excellent customer service. Human and Material Resources Assist with the Orientation Program and in-service education programs as necessary. Ensure educational activities throughout the organisation are carried out in a timely and cost effective manner. Assist in the adherence to a budget for education. Professional Development Create an environment which enhances development of self and others, and supports the identification of skill utilisation and opportunities for further development. Ensure, through participation and attendance at external committees and meetings that personal knowledge is abreast of current trends in education systems. Attend a minimum of one CPR program and one Emergency Response Procedures in-service per annum. Complete Manual Handling requirements with all Back Attack Tasks annually. Participate in the organisation’s Quality Management and Control program. Participate in the collection of Clinical and Process indicators. Understand the Severity Assessment matrix and reporting system. Be aware of and comply with all Commonwealth and State statutory and regulatory requirements in relation to privacy. Adhere with the current Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures of the organisation in line with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004. Adheres to and is aware of the information in relation to the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998 and understand responsibilities and obligations under this Act. Has declared that they are not a person prohibited by The Act from seeking, undertaking, or remaining in child related employment. Occupational Health & Safety Practice safe working procedures and comply with occupational health and safety policies and procedures. To demonstrate a working knowledge of equipment used within the ward areas. Promote a safe working environment by identifying and reporting hazards and incidents. Be actively involved in identifying health and safety risks in the clinical areas and work with the team towards developing and implementing control strategies to minimize or eliminate risks. Public Relations To maintain good communication with doctors and all other staff, to promote good working relationships. To encourage clients’ suggestions for improvement. Ensure the Director of Nursing is informed about any dissatisfaction with nursing or hospital services by doctors / clients or other staff. To encourage use of hospital facilities by doctors and the community. To participate in activities which enhance the professional standing of the hospital within the community. Performance Appraisal Be willing to participate in performance appraisal. The performance appraisal will be completed within three (3) months after commencement and thereafter annually.
