University of South Carolina Men’s Rugby Team (Est. 1967) www.uscrugby.org Head Coach Mark Morris Administrator Christian Harrell SORugby@mailbox.sc.edu USA Rugby Player Registration All players must have an active USA Rugby membership account by Friday, August 28th Your USA Rugby membership includes third party liability insurance coverage that protects you, the team, and the University from lawsuits that may arise from accidents that occur throughout the season. Registered USA Rugby members also receive up to $250,000 of accident medical insurance. That means if you're injured playing, refereeing, or even coaching, you'll have medical coverage. If you have primary health insurance, your USA Rugby Accident Insurance coverage could pay the deductible and cover other out-of-pocket expenses. (You may access a complete list of your benefits at the following link) An active USA Rugby membership is not only important for Division I Southeastern Rugby competition, but it is a requirement to participate with Men’s Rugby. If you are a new player, you will need to create an account with USA Rugby. If you are a returning player, simply login and then follow the instructions below: 1.) Go to USA Rugby's website 2.) Log in to your account or create a new account if you are a new member 3.) Click on the register button on the top right of the page, located next to the search bar 4.) Choose the Colleges tab, then Southeastern D1AA, then Univ. South Carolina Men's Rugby 5.) Select to register as a college player 6.) Follow the instructions through to the checkout Player Requirements Each week, players are expected to attend 2 weekly skills practices, 1 conditioning practice with the team, at least 2 conditioning/weight lifting sessions on their own time, and any matches assigned to you by your respective Head Coach. In addition to weekly participation, players are also expected to complete a number of logistical items to include the following: 1) USA Rugby Waiver (Paper) 2) USC Rugby Waiver (Online) 3) USC Rugby Participation Agreement (Paper) 4) New Player Profile (Online - New Players Only) 5) USA Rugby Registration ($40) 6) Player Dues ($250 or $350) The deadline to complete the above items is Friday, August 28th. After that, you will be benched each weekend until they are completed. Coach Morris is in agreement with this policy and will be enforcing it regardless of the individual or how developed his skills or knowledge of the game may be. Please show up to practice with all necessary forms filled out and ready, if possible. Incoming players, please contact Team Administrator Christian Harrell. Certified Athletic Trainers USC Sports Medicine, the official provider of University of South Carolina athletics, also furnishes Campus Recreation with ATC’s to provide medical coverage for all club sporting events, to include Men’s Rugby. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergency, acute, and chronic medical conditions involving impairment, functional limitations, and disabilities. Services are free for USC students and faculty. Injury Evaluation and Rehabilitation Hours 3:00pm – 6:00pm Monday – Thursday, or by appointment. Please call the Athletic Training Room to speak to a Certified Athletic Trainer regarding the care of your injury. Get Connected Communication is a very important aspect of our program. Please assist us in maintaining our database by providing your parents’ email addresses so that they receive these updates throughout the season and be apprised of your accomplishments. On our website you will find a condensed biography of our coaching staff. This would include each of their rugby backgrounds, as well as an explanation into their personal expertise with different parts of the game. Keep in mind that these men are here to help you in anyway in learning how to become a better rugby player. Never be afraid to ask questions or even talk to them before or after practice.
