England Students' Rugby Eligibility and Nomination Criteria 2015/16 Season Purpose The Primary purpose of The England Student team is to identify and assist the development of the best University and College based Rugby Players in the UK. In turn, this development allows them to experience International rugby. Playing for the England Students Team is the pinnacle of student rugby in this country. The aim at each stage of the system is to engage holistic development with inclusion of all players, coaches, administrators and medical staff who become part of the process. The England Students team identifies and recognises the quality of student rugby. It provides an alternative pathway for rugby development for those individuals who value the pursuit of higher education and/or develop later as rugby players. Development comprises training and playing performance, enhancing leadership, self –management, communication skills, cultural, and team skills, both on and off the field. All of this in a professionally structured international team environment England Students endeavours to assist player progression to the professional and semi-professional game. Eligibility and Selection Any player being nominated must meet the following criteria: Is English qualified (either through birth or family heritage from parents or grandparents or residency. Proof of heritage will be required) Must be enrolled at an accredited Higher Education or Further Education institution. Students need to be studying in HE for at least half time at level 4 (Higher National Certificates) or above. This represents a minimum of 60 credits. Students in Further Education should be studying for at least half time at Vocational Qualification Level 4 or above. Represents their University/College of study in either/or a combination of BUCS, College, RFU competitions, University Medics leagues or Friendly games. This is for a minimum of 5 games in the current season. Proof of this maybe requested by the institution "Athletic Union" or University Student Sport governing organisation. Exceptional circumstances may be considered on their individual merits e.g. injury. Are over 18 years old on Sept 1 of the current playing season. No player (come September of the 2015/16 season) shall be eligible for England Students if they have represented another international side in 15’s or 7’s within the previous 36 months from September 2015. This is immaterial of whether representing that side changes your English Qualified Players status. I.e. Full representation which would no longer qualify you to play for England. Exhibits rugby playing performances of a high consistent standard Is physically, technically, tactically and mentally capable of playing a minimum of Level 3 or above in the respective country his University/College is affiliated. Focus’s on his improving his individual positional and team rugby skills Communicates effectively. Shows good “people skills” exhibiting behaviour and habits within the RFU values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship. Both on and off the field. Meets the minimum Fitness and Conditioning standards set by the Students RFU Coaches Manages himself professionally with regards to nutrition, medical, injuries and general body management Has his nomination signed off by a Coach or University official confirming all information is correct Meets the nomination deadlines and timings Is free of any known conflicting events on the dates set out for England Students training and matches Nomination Process Players nominations must be completed and submitted by a qualified coach. Nominations will not be received direct from any player. The coach should be from the player’s academic institution in the first instance. The coach (or the institutions Student Union, if no coach is appointed) is required to send the attached nomination form to the England Students Team Manager, Phil Llewellyn, at; PhilipLlewellyn@rfu.com. By completing the nomination form and submitting it the coach is confirming that any nominated player meets the selection criteria and will be held accountable should it be proved that a player is ineligible. The nominations period will close on Thursday 4th February. Any nominations received after this date will not be considered.
