Clinical Education and Training Center
Who is Bobbi BayCare?
Something has been going on at BMG
Eisenhower, of which many people are not
aware. Bobbi BayCare has moved in.
Bobbi BayCare is a clinical manikin who
inhabits one of the two fully functioning
simulation exam rooms created by the BMG
Clinical Education and Training Department.
Team members can simulate over 35 nursing
and medical procedures on Bobbi to help
refine their skills. Bobbi is just one piece of a
new training center that can accommodate
up to 20 students at a time. Along with the
exam rooms, it includes a reception area,
clinical training cubicles that simulate all
facets of care found in a medical practice, and
a conference area where future workshops
will be held on diabetes management,
vaccinations, change management, medical
terminology, PCMH, COLA and more.
Soyini Morris and Lisa Maloney treat Bobbi BayCare.
Externship Program with
Ultimate Medical Academy
BMG has partnered with the Ultimate
Medical Academy to have their medical
assistants complete their externship in our
offices. The MA extern position is viewed as
a transitional role, whereby students develop
clinical expertise, specialty knowledge
and self-confidence as they move from a
student to a medical assistant role. It can
also be a great way for BMG to find qualified
candidates to fill open positions. Special
thanks to the Turley Family Health Center for
being our pilot site.
“Partnerships are about creating mutual value
for the parties involved. In our case, Ultimate
Medical Academy’s partnership with BayCare
is a true success for everyone involved.
Students of the Academy have the wonderful
opportunity to experience a hands-on
externship with a market leader in allied
health care; both UMA and BayCare join
together to place skilled health care graduates
in meaningful positions that make a positive
impact on the Tampa Bay community. We
are delighted to be working with BayCare
and look forward to making an impact on the
community together for years to come,” said
Chris Ignaut, campus director of Ultimate
Medical Academy in Clearwater, Florida.
If your office is interested in participating in
the program, contact Natasha Shenk at
(727) 524-2695.

Diabetes Education Services
for Patients and Staff
The Morton Plant Mease Diabetes
Education Center welcomes a new
registered diabetes educator, Gwen Enfield,
to the department. Gwen is a certified
diabetes educator and is available to provide
individuals and team members with diabetes
education services through the center and
their programs. These services range from
diabetes self-management education classes,
one-on-one diabetes education, gestational
diabetes education, refresher education and
medical nutrition therapy.
Most team members are not aware they
have three individual nutritional counseling
sessions per year available. These services
are paid by the BayCare Health Plan at 100
percent. Diabetes management counseling is
unlimited under all plan options
and is covered at 100 percent
with no out-of-pocket to the
patient. Services are provided
at Mease Countryside
Hospital, Morton Plant
Hospital, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital
and Bardmoor Outpatient Center. Referrals
are welcome from BayCare physicians and
physicians outside our BayCare home.
Gwen Enfield brings years of experience
and expertise to the department. Gwen and
the other professional educators are eager to
provide assistance. There are three registered
nurses and two registered dietitians on staff.
In addition, they are fortunate to have a
care coordinator who can identify barriers
and find solutions for self-care and other
needs. Interested individuals may reach the
Diabetes Education Center at
(727) 734-6888.

Sometimes patients need more than
just our clinical care to keep them
well and safe. To that end, Jacqueline
DiPardo, clinical services support

BMG Resource Guide. The guide
contains a variety of resources to share
with patients including nursing homes,
bill payment assistance, homeless
shelters, Alzheimer’s support groups,
smoking cessation assistance and much
more. Only businesses or services that
received positive feedback from patrons
has been included. All of the phone
numbers, websites and email addresses
are current. If you find a gap that

What’s in a Name?
One outcome of joining several groups
is similarities in practice names. In
addition, some of those names no
longer “ring true” as the practice
may have moved or the building
or complex for which it was called
may have changed their own name.
Although current practice names are
recognizable internally, some can be
confusing to patients.
A committee of team members from
several departments worked together
to develop a new slate of names to
be used in Cactus, which will then
pull into a variety of areas seen by
the public, such as our marketing
materials and website. Most names
remain the same, others had only
minor tweaks. You will see some of
these changes in the near future.
