PAGE 10 MAY-JUNE 2015 Community News LCAP receives $20,000 grant from Licking County Foundation The Licking County Aging Program was one of 21 non‐profit agencies that recently received financial awards from the Licking County Founda on. The $20,000 grant will be used by the agency to support its Emergency U lity Fund that provides emergency assistance to low and moderate income adults 60 and older when all other resources have been exhausted. When assistance is requested, LCAP social workers examine all other assistance op ons including the u lity company and other resources. If none can be found, then the applicant can apply for LCAP’s own u lity program. “Thanks to the Licking County Founda on we will be able to fund many seniors in our community who are in danger of having their u li es disconnected,” Dave Bibler, LCAP execu ve director, said. “Some mes they have to decide whether they are going to pay for medica ons they desperately need or pay their u lity bills. It is nobody’s fault but when you are living on a fixed income, some mes seniors have to make difficult decisions. With this grant those seniors will be able to keep their heat or air condi oning on and get the medica ons they need to live a good quality of life.” Computer classes gear up for summer sessions By JOHN KENNEDY of the Licking County Computer Society First off the Teaching Program would like to welcome all the snow‐birds back to Ohio and let them know we will have computer classes for them. Hospice & LCAP partner to form grief support By HOSPICE OF CENTRAL OHIO Hospice of Central Ohio realizes that the only way to provide the best possible care for someone in the last chapter of life, or a er the death of a loved one, is partnering with others in our community. LCAP and Hospice of Central Ohio have done just that. They share similar missions ‐ to provide a wide spectrum of services and resources to our Licking County community. While LCAP wonderfully contributes to the independence and healthy lifestyles of our senior ci zens, Hospice of Central Ohio works to help provide the best possible living for a person while they are going through their last chapter of life and works to be there to support the family following the death of their loved one. People o en feel overwhelmed with the death of a loved one. Loss can bring a very complex and unfamiliar jumble of emo ons, o en referred to as grief. This journey can be difficult and painful, but it can also be a me for growth and renewal. O en just learning about grief helps make it more manageable. Group support is a powerful way to help process grief, and to learn new ways to cope. That is why LCAP and Hospice of Central Ohio are very happy to be star ng a new program in May called GriefWorks. GriefWorks is an open support group, to be held once a month for people who wish to connect with others going through a similar experience. This group is for any type of loss and is open to the community free of charge. Our first mee ng will be held on May 7, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in conference room C. Everyone should have access to end‐of‐life care regardless of their ability to pay, complexity of care, or severity of need. Working together, we can assure that all eligible pa ents have a meaningful end‐of‐life experience and the opportunity to write the last chapter of their life. Hospice of Central Ohio is commi ed to the community and is founded on ensuring that no pa ent or family should be without quality end‐of‐life care. You can get informa on by calling Hospice of Central Ohio at: (800) 804‐2505 or learn more about us at: www.hospiceofcentralohio.org.
