The Anabel Taylor Baroque Organ
One of Cornell’s newest Hidden Jewels:
A ’66 private visit to the magnificent 25-foot Baroque Organ, originally handcrafted in 1706 by
master organ builder Arp Schnitger for a chapel in Berlin, destroyed by Allied bombers in WWII.
Each pipe, recreated & hand-built on campus by lead researcher & designer, Munetaka Yokota,
under the supervision of University organist
Professor Annette Richards, Arts & Sciences, Department of Music.
The organ’s wood cabinet reconstructed & carved by local Ithaca craftsman, Christopher Lowe.
We are thrilled to have Professor Richards share with us the organ’s history
& the story of its re-creation by Cornell.
