The Great Gatsby – Theme exploration The central theme of the novel The Great Gatsby is the corrupting influence of wealth. Fitzgerald contrasts that corrupting influence of wealth with the purity of a dream. Each group will be assigned one character. In your group, discuss: 1) how that character is corrupted by wealth 2) how that character treats or mistreats other people as a result of possessing or in search of wealth 3) how that character either corrupts or preserves the purity of a dream Once your group has discussed this question thoroughly, make up a reproducible sheet of notes for the rest of the class, thoroughly detailing the answers to the above questions.
