Demolition Derby Rules & Regulations
Applications for all derbies will be taken on a first come basis.

With 32 Cars
Four heats, with eight entries in each heat. The last two running vehicles in each of the four preliminary
heats shall advance to the feature event.
With 16 Cars
Two heats, with eight entries in each heat. The last four running vehicles in each heat advance to the feature
event.
A consolation heat will be held for all other vehicles still capable to running, with the winner also
advancing to the feature event.

All derby vehicles will be inspected.
All drivers under 18 years of age MUST have permission form filled out and signed by a
parent or legal guardian.
No passengers in derby vehicles anytime they are being operated.
Entries will be accepted up to two hours prior to start of the derby.
NO alcohol or drugs will be tolerated.
Conduct of a driver, his crew members or friends, can disqualify the driver from the event.
Drivers are required to wear crash helmets and safety glasses/goggles or face shield. Drivers
are also encouraged to wear fire retardant overalls. Driver must remain in their vehicle during
the derby with their helmet on and chin strap fastened. A driver shall be disqualified for
failing to do so. Seatbelts are required and are to be fastened at all times while operating a
derby vehicle.
Only the driver will be allowed to speak to the officials regarding the derby. Absolutely NO
pit crew member or fan will be acknowledged.
A protest will cost $100 cash upfront. If the challenge stands, the money will be returned. If
not, the money will be forfeited and turned over to the driver of the vehicle being challenged.
Derby officials may require a driver to remove or change any part or portion of a vehicle
which they consider to be unsafe.
Absolutely NO hitting the driver's door of an opponent. Officials will determine weather it
was accidental. First accidental hit will result in a warning. The driver will immediately be
disqualified upon a second accidental hit or an intentional hit to the opponent's driver's door.
All drivers must attend a driver's meeting at the entrance to the derby area one hour prior to
the derby.
If necessary, officials will deal with any situation not covered in these rules. All decisions of
the officials are final.
Remember - Avondale Speedway is a family event. Please demonstrate good sportsmanship
and have fun.
Drivers must hit an opponent at least once every minute. Sandbagging will NOT be tolerated.
The derby will be stopped and the sandbagger's car will be marked with a double 00 to signify
to other drivers who the sandbaggers are. If a driver is caught sandbagging after already being
marked with a double 00, the driver will be disqualified.
TRUCK RULES & REGULATIONS
Trucks are to be rear wheel 2X4 - 1/2 or 3/4 ton trucks. All trucks will be inspected before the derby.
Inspectors will begin as early as four hours prior to the derby. Pre-registered vehicles will be inspected first.
If registered vehicles are not inspected in time for the derby, alternates will be allowed to take their place.

All trucks must have their driver's door painted white and number painted on.
All glass, side and rear windows, headlights, taillights, and windshield must be removed - no rolling
down windows will be tolerated.
Complete removal of the interior is recommended. All trucks must be swept clean, including the
driver's compartment and bed. No spare tires, broken glass, or trash will be allowed.
Battery may be relocated to the front floorboard and securely fastened, and covered. Only one battery
is allowed.
All trucks must have radiator in stock position. If radiator is removed, you may ONLY run water in the
block. NO reserve tanks allowed.
Side doors must be welded solid, chained, bolted or wired shut.
A four-sided driver protection cage is highly recommended. Cages must not exceed 6" in front of the
doors and may not extend past the cab. Cage poles must not exceed 3" in diameter.

Bed may have additional bolts. Rubber mounts may be removed. Factory bed floor only. Wood floor
must have factory metal strips. No steel replacement floors.
The back of the cab may be welded to the bed. Tailgate may also be welded to the bed. No other reenforcing will be allowed.
Stock gas tank may be moved if behind the rear wheels. A marine tank may be used in it's place. Tank
may be either metal or plastic, but must not hold more than five gallons of gas. The tank may be
mounted in the front center of the bed, and securely bolted in place. Fuel lines may be rubber or metal,
lines and fittings must be leak proof. Electric fuel pumps are allowed but must have a shut-off within
reach of the driver.
Bumpers must be stock Automotive Bumpers. Homemade bumpers are not allowed. Bumper shocks
may be welded - no cutting bumper ends or re-enforcing bumpers. Bumpers may not exceed 21" from
the ground to the bottom of the bumper.
All hoods must have holes over the carburetor for the fire extinguishing access. Hoods can either be
chained or bolted. Hoods must be available to open for inspection.
All frames must remain in OEM stock - no weld zones / bumpers may be welded to frame. Don't add
cable, wire, or chain tensioning in or outside the frame. Drivers caught with altered frames will not be
allowed to run and will forfeit their entry fee.
Suspension must remain stock:
A. No stiff suspension. Trucks must have original give and bounce.
B. No welding suspension components, including upper and lower arms, tie rods, etc...
C. Rear coil springs may be welded or clamped.
D. Trucks must have original type suspension. Do not change leaf spring trucks to coil springs, or coil
spring trucks to leaf springs.
E. No welding leaf springs.
F. No adding leaves to spring assemblies. The number of spring leaves must be the same as the
manufacturer originally delivered stock, standard truck.
G. The suspension may not be modified in any way except in letter B or C above.
H. Trailer hitches must be removed. Class A or frame mounted hitches must be totally removed.
Class B or bumper mounted hitches must have trailer ball and stub cut off.
I. Frame must remain stock. Absolutely no fillers inside or added re-enforcement outside the frame.
Do not weld the seams. Repairs made to a broken or rusted frame must meet the approval of an
official. DONOT use camouflage materials.
Engine, Suspension, Rear-end Regulations:
A. Any engine / transmission may be used in any truck, but must be mounted in a stock position. On a
V block engine, the front spark plug must be even with or in front of the upper ball joint. On in-line
engines, the number 2 spark plug must be even with or in front of the upper ball joint.
B. Chained, welded, or homemade mounts are permitted and recommended. The must meet the
approval of the officials.
C. Exhaust is preferred to be upright - out of the hood.
D. Any type of header is allowed but must be directed away from the driver's compartment and other
competitors.
E. Radiators must stay in stock position and may not have anything in front of them. Radiator
overflow must be directed at ground.
F. Transmission coolers are permitted. All mounting, lines, and fittings must be approved by an
official.
G. Any drive shaft or u-joint may be used. Welding of the drive shaft is permitted.
H. All trucks must have working brakes.
I. ONLY gasoline and diesel fuels are allowed. No alcohol or other alternative fuels are permitted.

Implement, bar, and light truck tires are permitted – no filled tires, including foam, water,
cement, etc…. No chains, studs, or solid tires – questions call or e-mail Scott Johnson
Valve stem protectors are allowed.
FULL SIZE & COMPACT DERBY CAR RULES & REGULATIONS
Rules 1-15 of the Registration and Rules apply to the Full Size and Compact Derby
also.

Passenger cars only. No trucks, pick-ups, Jeeps, hearses, or commercial vehicles. No imperials or
imperial sub frames.
2. All glass must be removed from the vehicle except windshield.
3. Radiator must remain in its original manufactured position. If it is removed, the block may be
filled with water only - if radiator remains in stock position, overflow must point down at the
ground.
4. Original gas tank may stay in position if they are ahead of the rear wheels. If the gas tank is behind
the rear wheels it is recommended that the tank be moved to the trunk area and mounted between
the rear wheels. You may substitute a Metal or plastic marine gas tank. The area behind the rear
seat and speaker deck area should be covered with metal. The Tank must be secured to the floor
by straps and bolts. Tank shall not contain more than 4 gallons of gas.
5. Bumper height shall not exceed 21" from the ground to the bottom of the bumper. Bumpers must
be stock automotive bumpers. No other re-enforcement. No trailer hitches, or bumper mounted
trailer balls.
6. Hood and trunk will be chained or bolted. Exhaust is preferred to be upright out of the hood. There
must be a hole in the hood surrounding the carburetor for fire extinguishing.
7. All doors must be chained - no welds, except driver's door. Welds must be approved by an official.
8. Driver's door is to be painted white and have your assigned number.
9. No welding or additional re-enforcement will be allowed to any part of the car except the driver's
door. One safety bar is allowed to run parallel along the dash and one behind the driver's seat. Bar
shall not be any larger than 3" in diameter.
10. No solid tires, no filled tires including foam, water, cement, etc. No studs, chains, etc.

COMPACT DERBY
All rules from the full-size derby apply to the compact with these additional rules.
A. To be in the compact derby, the car must be a manufactured stock four or six cylinder car. Front wheel
drive only, with a maximum wheel-base of 107". Call or email with questions.
B. Most four cylinder cars have the fuel pump in the gas tank. If the tank is located in the front of the rear
axle, the tank does not have to be moved. If an electric fuel pump is used, the driver must have a shut off
switch within reach. If the gas tank is behind the rear wheels it is recommended that it be moved to the
trunk area and mounted between the rear wheels. You may substitute a Metal or plastic marine gas tank.
